The tragic remains of the once great abbey of Bury St Edmunds. Originally one of the largest and most powerful monastic complexes in England, the abbey precinct was constructed around the vast church which was built over the tomb of the martyred King and Saint Edmund and was a major centre of pilgrimage.

The great Norman church was of colossal proportions, cruciform and larger than many cathedrals (certainly the one which now stands before its site, which would have easily fitted into the abbey's nave with room to spare). Its facade was immensely broad and was formerly crowned by a soaring tower and spire, its overall form perhaps somewhere between the frontages of Ely and Lincoln cathedrals.

All its glory ended with the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it came close to a reprieve when Henry VIII considered forming new dioceses out of certain great monasteries in which case it would have become the cathedral (instead of the much smaller St James's church in front of it). Alas it was not to be and the site was quickly plundered and used as a quarry.

Today the enormous church has been so systematically plundered that only the misshapen rubble cores of the crossing pillars and parts of the transept and west front remain, all robbed of their original facing stone.

The west front is the most substantial fragment, its arches filled in by later houses, thus what appears to be a jumbled row of stone buildings immediately behind the present cathedral is actually the lowest stage of the church's main facade, though it takes considerable imagination to make sense of it all. The most recognisable features are the three great arches of the central portals (with later houses embedded in them) and the base of an octagonal turret at the south end (formerly balanced by a similar feature to the north, now vanished).

This place always saddens me with a huge sense of loss, one of England's greatest buildings stood here but has all but vanished, the great open space left like a gaping wound from one of history's more vicious blows. If I had access to a time machine, this would be one of my first stops (on a very lengthy itinerary!).

My son was 2 when we first saw this train - in bits being restored, so Leo (now 5) was very excited to finally ride this magnificent machine. This is an A4 engine - a sister to the world speed steam train record holder Mallard. It accelerated much faster than any steam train we had ever been on!

The machine this rack is going onto will be disco only, so the canti posts have become rack mounting posts.

This makes it /really/ hard to adjust the rack angles; I'm going to have to put it back under the torch to reset the fork leg mountpoints.

Here is my version. I only made one major change: I made the reinforcing panel in the bottom removable and it is just a fabric covered "pillow" that sits in the bottom. Fun project and I'm sure I'll make more (but maybe not on my crummy machine - this really tested its limits).

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Aluminium square bar is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications. It is strong, lightweight, customizable, and affordable. It is also resistant to corrosion and can be easily machined. This makes it perfect for use in construction projects, automotive, and aerospace industries. Aluminum square bar is a versatile product that is used in a variety of applications. It is often seen in structural frames and braces and can also be used for decorative purposes. The square bar is made by using an extrusion process and is typically produced from 6061 and 6063 aluminum alloy. This makes it corrosion-resistant and suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Aluminium square bars are an essential tool for construction and fabrication. In many ways, they can be compared to their steel counterparts, as they are both extremely durable and have similar properties. Like steel, aluminium square bars are lightweight, yet strong enough to be used in a variety of construction projects. Additionally, aluminium square bars have the added benefit of being rust-proof and highly resistant to corrosion.

Couldn't keep from getting War Machine this morning. Since I had him, thought I'd take a few shot with him and I think he might end up becoming one of my contacts for that "thing I'm doing'.

Lego version of my local bank. It must be lunchtime, because there is a queue for the cash machine. This is on display in the Watford LEGO store during November 2017

This was written to me, from a Live Journal friend today...

I'm alive but I have no home.

This is a picture of my area of town. If you look in the upper right you'll see a orange roof.

That's what used to be home depot. I lived across the canal and two blocks down from there. A one story house. I called billy tauzin's office (our state rep) this morning and asked them why they weren't saying anything on the news about st bernard. They told me that there wasn't anything to see. the taller two story buildings you can see their roof but the one stories are completely under water.

I have friends that I think stayed. When I left I left practically everything. My computer my grandma's rings, my mom's art, her jewelry, most of my jewelry that has sentamental value... my dreamcatchers... everything gone.

Right now I'm in clanton alabama. I'm amazing at home giving and caring these people are. Last night when the stome rushed through here the power surged and destroyed my mom's oxygen machine. This morning they rushed over and brought her a rental (mind you her insurance isn't taken here and they are doing this for free) and took her's to fix it. They they brought us loads of food and treats for the cats. I'm probably going to stay here for another week and then we are going to decide where we want our new home to be. Richard wants to move to ohio. I'm scared of the winters.

My cell doesn't work because all the cell sites in new orleans are gone or down and calls have to be routed through there. Verizon doesn't know when it'll be back up but it said that the only way to get a work number is to buy a new phone and get a new account.

Walgreens is going to pay me a 30 hour check as long as my store is closed (whihc considering it has atleast 5 feet of water in it... may be a very long time) Uncle b's work is gone and his main office was in gulfport and that was very badly hit (it's next to biloxi) so we are gonna try to regroup pick a city with a cancer center and move there.

I loved new orleans. Goodbye my city.

Full blackout win on Gold Bars slot machine. This was full silver bars for a win of $805.

The green patch had just been harvested. The growers remove the heads with a mower-type machine. This keeps the bulb in better shape.

Using a very old machine, this woman stitched names and designs onto cloth completely freehand.

One day, our flight was delayed and there really isn’t a lot to do in the Las Vegas airport but eat, drink coffee and gamble. Mike decided to put $20 in a slot machine. Two spins later, “Bing, Bing, Bing” and money started pouring out of the machine. This was when slot machines paid you off in coins, so I grabbed a bucked and started filling it. Mike grabbed a handful of coins and went to the next machine. Just as I finshed filling 1 1/2 buckets, the machine Mike was at started “Bing, Bing, Bing” - another Jackpot. We continued that all the way around the group of machines. In the end, we walked away with about $2,000 - and people say you don’t win at the airport!

That experience started us gambling in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe and even the Indian Casinos. Overall, we did pretty good when we gambled.

Las Vegas is the favorite place, not just beause of the gambling, but for the shows, being able to do some people watching, and the shopping. AND we got to visit Mike’s Mom and the part of the rest of his family.

1959 Jaguar XK150 FHC

Chassis No. S835771BW

Engine No. V5366-8

Transmission: Automatic

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernized. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen, and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The alloy bonnet was also widened, and opened down to the wings.

In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by an elegantly leather trimmed dash. Thinner doors gave the interior needed space as well.

Four-wheel Dunlop 12 in. Disc-Brakes appeared for the first time. Suspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140. Steering was by rack and pinion; power steering was not offered. Production ended in October of 1960.

S837312: Offered here is an elegant fixed head coupe, meticulously restored from top to bottom, with no detail overlooked.

This iconic British roadster is finished in a beautiful metallic blue over dark blue upholstery, complimented by chrome wire wheels, and driving lamps; displaying excellent fit and finish throughout. The car also features correct “J” headlamps and dual exhaust.

The cabin of the 150 is quite striking. Supple hides and well polished wood adorn the cockpit as well as plenty of brightwork. An aftermarket stereo system has been installed under the dash.

The well sorted 3.4L motor is quite stout, exhibiting strong acceleration and steady idling as the automatic transmission shifts through all gears with ease. As a reliable machine, this Jaguar certainly draws attention with its striking looks, all while offering a pleasant care-free driving experience.

Meticulous Full Restoration!

Well sorted throughout!

Excellent fit and finish!

below is a photo of how i am going to re-create my environment.

MAX.

right at the time when i was a videoclerk, i began to re-create my environment into that of my work. when at home i began to re-enact work itself. i created a work-live hybrid. i became kind of a motor, a machine. this was feeling quite okay, means there wasnt any feeling harming or harrassing me. being part of this calculable and reasonable blueprint for undisturbedness, i could concentrate on watching carefully. one of those evenings i was watching something like a family hollywood movie called the big fish. things changed on this evening, my mind changed. i began to realise that life is an assumption of the stories you tell, mainly to yourself. might not even be the stories you tell, but those that you may remember and how you remember. so its all up to you, i can do whatever the heck i like.

so i decided to want to become this other fella. i did not really choose consciously but it was kind of chosen or i chose it before i even could make it up in my mind. i tried to throw away what i had amassed in my previous time. i wanted to spit it out, let it rot. i had to become this other fella. not in a metaphorical sense, but literally. i had to become him with all of his options with all that he stood for. this was the hardest work i ever did in my whole life and it didnt pay off, it didnt do justice and still there was nobody that did pay me for that. not even minimum wage. i sure didnt pay me for that, too, the merciless boss that i am. i let me slave away for days and weeks and months and years and i did not even give me a warm handshake. sometimes you just gotta be hard.

We hosted a special event about ‘Pataphysics, the “science of imaginary solutions” -- and its founder, french poet Alfred Jarry, as part of our educational programs this month at the Mill Valley Library. This one-hour lecture and group discussion was held on October 15 in the Creekside Room, and engaged dozens of local community members in a fascinating conversation about the art movement that inspired surrealism and dadaism. Our presenters were Marshall Smith and Priscilla Wheeler, with creative contributions by Mark Petrakis, Freddy Hahne, as well as Fabrice and Phyllis Florin.

This program complements the first public exhibit of the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine, our poetic oracle, which is on display this month at the Mill Valley Library. I was just writing about music lessons in another context: the player piano in the Ghost Ship warehouse that burned. But it needs it own place:

Player piano-

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_piano

- when i was a kid, we were constantly moving ( Navy ).

- i remember that my parents tried to give me music.

- i took piano for seven years, probably off and on. I remember a recital- either in Seattle where i played a piece that i can remember. it would take me ages to learn to play it, now. it was real, two-hand playing. geez.

- then i guess they decided that i should have a portable instrument. we were living in a quanset hut in Coral Sea Village, at the south end of Mare Island, near the remains of the volcano.*

- they got me a three-quarter violin and lessons. ( we still have it. George fools around with it a little, but there is only one string. a real repair would be pretty expensive. )

- i don't think i got anywhere with the violin.

- next it was A PLAYER PIANO. we were still on Mare Island, but ouside the gate, in Guadalcanal Village.

- i don't remember piano lessons, this time. maybe the idea was that- if i didn't take it seriously- as least the family could enjoy it.

- it was amazing. piano rolls, not only held a 'recording' of the music: it had a certain person's interpretation of the music. far out.

- i don't remember a conflict, but this was also the time that we got our first TV SET- a huge black and white, tube set, the size of a washing machine. This is the actual set a couple of years later:

- yes, i think the player piano and the TV were there without conflict. It was very fun to "play" it.

* - yes, a volcano.

- we played among gigantic broken boulders with lots of play space, under and between them. one side of the rocks had lava flow lines on them. this is the closest image that i've found:

www.google.com/search?q=volcano+flow+lines+in+cooled+rock...

- it is much smaller scaled, the rock surface covered with what looked like viscous teardrops.

- I'll have to draw it....

Here the prototype #2 is being engraved in a CAD/CAM controlled machine. This is the machine in action behind the protective screens.

This is a portait of somebody I had just met. I went to Brighton for an hour and stayed for four. We went to take photos and had a super time, it was The Bike Fest . I estimate well over a thousand bikes. Many were Harleys. There was a fantastic atmosphere, Everyone was friendly, and there for a good time and to show off their machines.

This was my first portrait and a stranger .I was a little anxious but he was charming, and chivalrous and happy.

This full boat kit for Roswell Wake-Air’s (www.roswellwakeair.com/) Super Air Nautique 230 just came off the machines this morning. This is a full customized design with Roswell logos through out.
