I have a fondness for machines of all sorts. I find symmetry, balance, and each machine has a story to tell from industrialism and it's capitalistic roots. It has purpose and function.

Machines operated by robotic controls clear the Coleman Impact Area for installation of an $40 million aerial gunnery range, Sept. 17, at Fort Bragg. The range is projected to be finished in four to six years and will give Fort Bragg the capability of allowing rotary wing pilots to practice their gunnery/combat skills without having to leave the installation.

Musée Mécanique is a great museum, located on Pier 45 in San Francisco's Fishermans Wharf. From their site - Edward Galland Zelinsky wrote that "my collection consists of more than 300 items, ranging from orchestrions, coin operated pianos, antique slot machines, and animations, down to small bird boxes." We went there during our blitz through San Francisco on Thursday November 10, 2011. This is a must-see stop if you are in San Francisco.

A man entertains passerbys on West Morrison Street in Portland, Oregon. Painted silver, he stands as still as a statue until money is tossed into his bucket and then performs by rolling a glass sphere on his hands and forearm using machine like movements without speaking or moving his mouth. Matt observes the delivery of the large milling machine that is now situated in our garage. I like how (due to the positioning of the forky bit of the forklift) the machine appears to be levitating above the road.
(Also, note little neighbor boy across the street -- he pretty much stood there with eyes as wide as saucers watching the entire process of delivery / forkliftery. Later on we had like 5 neighbor kids peering into the garage. I think they all expect us to be producing metal toys for them now. :P)
