"This is the coal machine where Uncle Rufus worked. It would lift the coal cars up to the top of the structure and then tip them over into a hopper. The coal would slide down a shoot and into the boat. I believe it was the Ashtabula and Buffalo Coal Dock."
Appears to be a side view of the unit show here:
One of the first things to capture my attention in Japan was the plethora of vending machines lining the streets stocking a huge range of drinks

My brother got me interested in RenFaires in the early 1990s. By the year 2000 I was going in simple garb and thought how can I bring bubbles to Faire. In 2004 I put on paper a concept drawing and in 2005 built a machine, which I christened The Renaissance Bubble Machine or RBM for short. The design used technology in use at the time... a bellows and a simple lever. My inspiration was what would Leonardo do? It was mounted on a wooden cart made by the Amish and from the start was a hit with all who saw it.

The last generation of vending machines for the "Sonntagsblick", a Sunday newspaper, is disappearing. There are about 1500 of them in Switzerland. It all started in 1969 with machines in the shape of an astronaut’s helmet. It was the year of the moon landing. But these prototypes didn't work properly. The vending machines were created as a reaction to the then restrictive regulations regarding Sunday working hours and shop opening hours. The current price is CHF 5.20. The boxes will be filled for the last time on July 28, 2024. Then they are removed. Switzerland, June 16, 2024.

Apparently it is easy to forget to take out the transit packaging when you are a washing machine fitter! At least it turns out it was for our particular fitters!
They arrived without any tools at all, said they couldn't fit it properly as the taps were in the wrong place, left the dishwasher unconnected and tried to escape whiloe the machine was leaking water. They left dad to finish the job for them. However it never occurred to us that they would have left this polystyrene nd plastic packing beneath in the workings of the machine until we had to call out a service engineer because the machine stopped working!
One of our favorite things we used to do (before COVID) was let Sam check out every gumball machine in a mall for extra candy. Now, as COVID has made going to the mall and touch everything impossible, WHO IS CHECKING THE GUMBALL MACHINES? - 3/25/2021

Martian War Machine from the 1953 movie "The War of the Worlds."
Straight out of the camera. Done in my "basement studio:" a frame built of PVC over which I hung a black sheet. A single flourescent light was used to illuminate the subject.
