I last visited Elk Creek Falls in 2009. At the time, I was using a Nikon D40 with a set of simple and cheap kit lenses and a terrible tripod.
I never went back because I'd look at the picture I took in 2009 with that cheap lens and I couldn't find a reason to try to get a better shot. I still love that picture.
Perhaps I was tired. Perhaps I just didn't remember. Whatever the reason, I went back on a cloudy day in late March to give the falls another go. I was in no rush, I had no appointments to make.
It was just me, a tripod, a camera, a pair of boots, and a short trail to visit a trio of waterfalls. Why not?
Elk Creek falls are beautiful, enclosed in woods that take me back home, that luscious combination of fir and ceder that smells so wonderful and green. It's well worth the trip. Getting a photo to take home with me, well that's just the bonus material.
A quick stop at the lake. It was warm and sunny. A few anglers trying their luck, one or two sunbathers on the piers and on the cliffs. Met an ambulance and a fire truck, so there must have been some incident nearby.
A MetroLink train on the lower deck of the Eads Bridge crosses the Mississippi River. In the foreground, the statue "The Captains' Return" seems to float on the river. The MLK bridge is in the background.
