I've been making a lot of smoothies since I stopped going to Tropical Smoothie. I get more flexibility, they're tastier, I have control of amounts of the ingredients and quality. And I can have something new and different all the time without having to pay extra for customisation or, at least, the hassle of trying to figure out how many ACTUAL calories I'm consuming.

 

This baby has some kick to it. the kiwi and lime to make it sour. I think I may be the only one who really likes it this tart, feel free to cut back. I added a secret ingredient to give it protein with few additional calories

 

I measure most of my food by weight and typicall y use metric because it's easier to do the math. I use LiveStrong.com to calculate the values.

22 ml Coconut milk - 50 cal

10 g. fresh coconut - 50 cal

80 g kiwi (1 med. peeled) - 48 cal

55 g mango - 36 cal

62 g strawberries (frozen) - 25 cal

1/2 c. 0% Fage Greek Yogurt -60 cal

1 packet Special K protein water mix- strawberry banana - 30 cal

1/4 c. rolled oats (for extra fiber! - 70 cal

 

**the oatmeal won't completely blend in with the fruit if you add it at the same time. if you want less texture in your smoothie, put it in the blender and pulse it a few times first.

 

I've been adding it for fiber but now looking at the stats, I'd be better off buying a supplement to add. a half serving of oats is 70 cal but only 2 g fiber -- the protein water pack adds 5g ea protein/fiber for only 30 cal.

There were a lot of reusable shopping bags on the show floor this year. This was one of our favorites, the "Veggie Bed," because it managed to keep your fruits and veggies in a long bed without smashing them (shaped almost like a tool box). They even had a scanner code on the bottom to help grocers at the checkout.

In this section I am going to explain the procedure to make easy Spinach (Palak) Curry together with vegetables like Peas, Carrot, Maize Corn, Beans etc. Spinach Vegetable curry is a delicious, tasty north Indian dish prepared with spinach and vegetables aromated with exotic blend of Indian spices. This traditional Palak based vegetarian dish is rich in iron, smooth in texture and tasty curry.

Self-made,

Bake normal Sponge cake and cut in half /vertical.

Mouse made with

- creamed Coconut milk,

- Kahlua as sweetener

- a small amount of Butter

- 100% Cocoa powder

- Vanilla Essence

- Nutmeg

Everything can be mixed after your own taste. You can also add a little bit of Espresso

Place in Fridge until firm.

Put cake together after your own fantasy, using soft fruit or berries.

Decorating chocolate on top made with

- 100% cocoa ( a lot )

- melted butter

- vanilla Essence

- Icing Sugar or Honey ( a little )

So you have that dark chocolate taste.

 

ps. You also can put some Whisky or Rum on the Sponge cake layers for more moisture and taste.

    

The news media was all over Chef Paul's new low calorie, low carb almond cookies.

 

I just made these & they are really awesome.

 

Ingredients

3 egg whites

1/8 tsp salt

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup whole almonds , toasted and finely chopped ( I used almond flour)

 

Directions

1 Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray and preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2 Beat egg whites with an electric mixer in a medium bowl until soft peaks form. Add in the salt; gradually beat in the sugar, then the vanilla. Continue to beat until the egg whites are stiff but not dry. Gently fold in the almonds.

3 Drop the batter one teaspoonful at a time onto the baking sheets; lift the spoon as you drop to create a peak in the center. Work quickly so batter does not spread.

4 Bake until the cookies are lightly browned and hard to the touch on top, about 12-15 minutes. Gently remove cookies from baking sheets and place on a wire rack to cool.

I baked this low carb, diabetic friendly pumpkin pie for our dessert tonight. It is made with pumpkin,splenda,almond milk, eggs and spices. It is very low in carbs, low in calories and is also gluten and dairy free if you happen to watch those things in your diet. The whipped cream on top is low fat and sugar free.

 

It tasted great! My husband even liked it and he doesn't like pumpkin pie.

Bill Nye was at the show, doing some of his fun experiments with the audience to explain the Water Ionizer, which adds an electric charge to regular tap water to make it a sanitizing product that's strong enough to get out crayon marks. We'll be blogging about this at Health Bistro.

Shrimp & Scallops

 

I eat some sort of seafood for lunch and/or dinner pretty much every day. This was for Thurs & Friday's lunches.

Infused water was very, very big this year -- all kinds of flavored waters. Coconut water -- of all things -- made a huge splash and was found not only bottled, but also in other products like sorbets this year. This line is a line of waters for kids that have vitamins in them for various kid/ teen needs.

Dried fruits made a big showing this year, too. This product was only 1 WW point (for the entire bag!). It was dried fruit, but it had a really great, tangy (almost crispy) taste -- not mushy like some dried fruits. We really loved it. And the "Ingredients" list names ONLY the fruit -- no preservatives, sugar, etc.
