It seems odd to find mallard ducks in the 'burbs, but we have them come back around here every spring. There is a pond not far away, on the other side of the middle school across the street from my house, and further down into town, a large creek runs through. The lady has chosen a secluded spot in the shrubbery in my front foundation bed for her nest this year, and we have a good view from the window in our dining room. I thought he looked a bit like a sentry up there, watching out for all things untoward and malicious.

I discovered there's a good reason why you mostly only see photographs of Tokyo by night: Tokyo by day is dull dull dull. You wouldn't guess it from the lovely night pictures (see, for example, Alex's shots), but Tokyo is seemingly founded on a bulk buy of concrete and other cheap-looking building materials.

Of photos I have taken, very nearly my all-time fave. This is one of the two uprights of the Leonard P. Zakim Bridge in Boston, which was instantly a city symbol even before it was completed. This was taken on the first of two open houses the state hosted to allow people to see the bridge close up, well before it was put into service.
