For a gentle touch,
in between the fresh petals
-- Spring dreams wait for me.
It's time to get back to some color. Spring is here and the petals are calling. Lost and found edges, tiny details... a world to discover. Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful day ahead!
“Beauty is an ache, a presage.
A glimpse, a longing, and a
bewildering ecstasy.”
—Beth Powning
The year I turned 40, I flew to Costa Rica to try something that was on my bucket list: surfing. I took the Sunwing “champagne” flight, and stayed with family in a villa just steps from the ocean. It was a dream come true. This photo was taken one evening with my old Canon camera as I walked the beach alone. The sunset was spectacular—just the remedy at the time for my restless heart. It felt like a gift. It took my breath away.
I was raised by the water, but I haven’t always lived by lakes (and later the ocean) that I grew up around. I thought that I would return to the coast permanently at some point, but that hasn’t been in the cards for me. Only people who truly love the water know what it’s like to be separated from it. It is an ache that never leaves you. Although, if I were to leave here, inevitably there would be things to miss (like brilliant autumn leaves, my proximity to Toronto, etc.). You can never have it all, it seems, which is why we must be grateful for what we have. And I am grateful, for opportunities, memories and photos that can take me back—even if only briefly in my mind.

A forgotten shot from a year and a half ago of the beach near Trinidad, California. The mainland rises on the right and Pewetole Island on the left.
I miss being there.
“I walk and walk with cold hands.
Back at the house it is filled with longing,
nothing to carry longing away.
I look back over my life.
I try to find analogies.
There are none.
I have longed for people before, I have loved people before.
Not like this.
It was not this.”

Yearnings For Home
~Frances Ellen Watkins Harper - 1825-1911~
Oh let me go I’m weary here
And fevers scorch my brain,
I long to feel my native air
Breathe o’er each burning vein.
I long once more to see
My home among the distant hills,
To breathe amid the melody
Of murmering brooks and rills.
My home is where eternal snow
Round threat’ning craters sleep,
Where streamlets murmer soft and low
And playful cascades leap.
Tis where glad scenes shall meet
My weary, longing eye;
Where rocks and Alpine forests greet
The bright cerulean sky.
Your scenes are bright I know,
But there my mother pray’d,
Her cot is lowly, but I go
To die beneath its shade.
For, Oh I know she’ll cling
‘Round me her treasur’d long,
My sisters too will sing
Each lov’d familiar song.
They’ll soothe my fever’d brow,
As in departed hours,
And spread around my dying couch
The brightest, fairest flowers.
Then let me go I’m weary here
And fevers scorch my brain,
I long to feel my native air,
Breathe o’er each burning vein.

A Certain Smile
A certain smile, a certain face
Can lead an unsuspecting heart
On a merry chase
Afleeting glance can say
So many lovely things
Suddenly you know why my heart sings
You love awhile and when love goes
You try to hide the tears inside
With a cheerful pose
But in the hush of night
Exactly like a bitter sweet refrain
Comes that certain smile
To haunt your heart again

... for the caress of the seas and all her moods.
The warmth and distant horizons to kindle her dreams
But here she lay, anchored to the shale and pebbles.
Till she is striped by winds and sand her soul laid bare for all to see,

For Longing: A Poem by John O’Donohue
blessed be the longing that brought you here
and quickens your soul with wonder.
may you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
that disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
may you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
to discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
may the forms of your belonging – in love, creativity, and friendship –
be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
may the one you long for long for you.
may your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
may a secret providence guide your thought and nurture your feeling.
may your mind inhabit your life with the sureness
with which your body inhabits the world.
may your heart never be haunted by ghost-structures of old damage.
may you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
may you know the urgency with which God longs for you.
may your mind inhabit your life with the sureness
with which your body inhabits the world.

Introduction
The Word of God | "The Savior Has Already Returned Upon a 'White Cloud'"
Almighty God says, "Since Jesus departed, the disciples who followed Him, and all of the saints who were saved thanks to His name, have been desperately pining for Him and awaiting Him. All those who were saved by the grace of Jesus Christ during the Age of Grace have been longing for that joyful day during the last days, when Jesus the Savior arrives on a white cloud and appears among man. …Yet Jesus the Savior did not do this; He did the opposite of what man conceived. He did not arrive among those who had yearned for His return, and did not appear to all men while riding upon the white cloud. He has already arrived, but man does not know Him, and remains ignorant of His arrival. Man is only aimlessly awaiting Him, unaware that He has already descended upon a white cloud (the cloud which is His Spirit, His words, and His entire disposition and all that He is), and is now among a group of overcomers that He will make during the last days."
