Located in the altitude fields of the "Serra da Bocaina", the "Casa de Pedra", as it is currently known, was built by Dr. Lassance, a resident doctor from Rio de Janeiro, in the beginning of the 20th century and its apogee in 1914.

Once ready and decorated with the richest imported refinements, the house was not much to the liking of his wife who was not interested in the patrimony.

The abandonment and vandalism were destroying the beautiful building that is now in ruins, and today is only a reminder of the golden days of "Bocaina".

Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about 9 km east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is one of several volcanoes forming the Campanian volcanic arc. Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera, resulting from the collapse of an earlier, much higher structure.

The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, and several other settlements. The eruption ejected a cloud of stones, ashes and volcanic gases to a height of 33 km, erupting molten rock and pulverized pumice at the rate of 6×105 cubic metres per second. More than 1,000 people are thought to have died in the eruption, though the exact toll is unknown. The only surviving eyewitness account of the event consists of two letters by Pliny the Younger to the historian Tacitus.

Vesuvius has erupted many times since. It is the only volcano on Europe's mainland to have erupted in the last hundred years. It is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because 3,000,000 people live near enough to be affected by an eruption, with 600,000 in the danger zone. This is the most densely populated volcanic region in the world. Eruptions tend to be violent and explosive; these are known as Plinian eruptions.

Vesuvius has a long historic and literary tradition. It was considered a divinity of the Genius type at the time of the eruption of AD 79: it appears under the inscribed name Vesuvius as a serpent in the decorative frescos of many lararia, or household shrines, surviving from Pompeii. An inscription from Capua to IOVI VESVVIO indicates that he was worshipped as a power of Jupiter; that is, Jupiter Vesuvius.

The Romans regarded Mount Vesuvius to be devoted to Hercules. The historian Diodorus Siculus relates a tradition that Hercules, in the performance of his labors, passed through the country of nearby Cumae on his way to Sicily and found there a place called "the Phlegraean Plain", "from a hill which anciently vomited out fire ... now called Vesuvius." It was inhabited by giant bandits, "the sons of the Earth. With the gods' assistance, he pacified the region and continued. The facts behind the tradition, if any, remain unknown, as does whether Herculaneum was named after it. An epigram by the poet Martial in 88 AD suggests that both Venus, patroness of Pompeii, and Hercules were worshipped in the region devastated by the eruption of 79.

Located at the corner of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street, the Grand Central Café Bar is located in a genuinely grand central site, but doesn’t have a long history. It links what were two premises, 10 and 11 O’Connell Street, which have been a single building since the Munster and Leinster Bank acquired No 11 in 1926. No 11 was rebuilt by Benjamin Ball in 1824.

The buildings were extensively damaged in the Easter Rising of 1916, primarily by a shell from HMS Helga. No 10 was refurbished as a result in 1917.

The buildings played an interesting rôle during the Easter Rising. They housed at that time the Irish School of Wireless Telegraphy. With all telephone lines in and out of the city cut by the British authorities, on the second day of the Rising, 25 April 1916, the rebels sent the following message in Morse code thanks to one of their number, David Bourke, who was proficient in the art of telegraphy: “Irish Republic declared in Dublin today. Irish troops have captured city and are in full possession. Enemy cannot move in city. The whole country rising.”

Ships did receive the message and relayed it to the international press, although three days later the Rising would be crushed.

Dunvegan Castle is located 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of Scotland. It is the seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod, chief of the Clan MacLeod. Probably a fortified site from the earliest times, the castle was first built in the 13th century and developed piecemeal over the centuries. In the 19th century the whole castle was remodelled in a mock-medieval style. The castle is built on an elevated rock overlooking an inlet on the eastern shore of Loch Dunvegan, a sea loch.

The promontory was enclosed by a curtain wall in the 13th century, and a four-storey tower house was built in the late 14th century. This tower was similar in style to contemporary structures at Kisimul Castle and Caisteal Maol. Alasdair Crotach, the 8th chief, added the Fairy Tower as a separate building around 1500. During the 17th century, new ranges of buildings were put up between the old tower and the Fairy Tower, beginning in 1623 with the state apartment built by Ruaraidh Mor. The old tower was subsequently abandoned until the late 18th century, when the 23rd chief began the process of homogenising the appearance of the castle. This process continued under the 24th and 25th chiefs, with the addition of mock battlements and the new approach over a drawbridge from the east. The present appearance of the castle dates from around 1840 when this process of "baronialisation" was completed.

The castle is a Category A listed building.

A little hard for the camera to focus upon but the butterfly's antenna helped! LOL ;-) If you were a butterfly though, what is not to like about this scenario?! You would be crazy not to... :-))

Located in Somerset House, London, this grand rotunda stairway rises up through the building to the Navy Board Rooms.

The present five storey stair is a replica of what was there up until the original suffered significant damage in The Blitz during World War II. It was rebuilt in the early 1950s using the original plans

The architecturally interesting stair, which is located in the South Wing, was originally built in the late 18th century to the designs of Sir William Chambers with each flight a different configuration to the one underneath (the design was apparently made to reflect something of the stairs on ships).

It was initially known as the Navy Stair but renamed the Nelson Stair, ostensibly in honour of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson.

Tapolca is located 14 km's from Lake Balaton in the basin named after the town itself.

The Slavic originated word (Toplica) means warm water.

The town and surroundings have many sights and attractions:

The Mill Pond has a very romantic and mediterranic feel. The hot water springs that have their sources in this place have been blanked up and used for the mill. On the stage located on the surface of the pond are programs called Tapolca Summer in July and August year by year.

The School Museum has the greatest pedagogy historical collections of the Transdanubian region and takes place in the former cantor house. The class reminds us of the lessons in the turn of the century.

Located in East Liberty Pittsburgh, the Detective Building was originally built in 1972 in the formalist style of architecture as the headquarters of AAA, before housing the investigative branch of Pittburgh's Police Bureau. Abandoned for almost a decade, the property had fallen into a state of disrepair until purchased and entirely renovated and restored over a span of three years beginning in 2015.

Standing proudly now as a testament of the City's revitalization and spirit, fully furnished and meticulously appointed full floor office space is available at the City's rapidly evolving East Liberty neighborhood.

Located in the northern section of the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge near Seymour, Indiana. The refuge consists of 7802 acres of wetland and former farm land that was acquired starting in the late 1940's. One log cabin with it's barn are all that remains of the 780 families were displaced. Richart Lake is in the background. We were rewarded by several flyovers of Sandhill Cranes. The cranes are noisy birds.

Located on Chief's Island, which was returned to the Coos Indian Tribe. The future of this lighthouse is uncertain, it is supposed to be restored and reopened to the public, but there is no funding for the project, which would involve restoring the bridge to the island.
