Located in the East of Iceland are two stunning waterfalls, Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss. The hike up to Hengifoss is 2.5km long and when you get to 1.2km on the West side of the gorge you come across Litlanesfoss where this 30mtr high waterfall cascades between the basalt columns which flank the falls on each side.
This structure, located among the vineyards near Criação da Velha on the Island of Pico in the Azores, is typical of homes in the region. It was built using blocks of basalt, a volcanic rock. While some structures in the area are coated with plaster and painted, this one has been left in its natural state.
Pico is known for its rich vinicultural heritage.. The vineyards surrounding Criação da Velha are part of a protected cultural landscape in Portugal and are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
.
The volcanic flow, where the vineyards grow at Criação da Velha, dates back approximately 1,500 years. The basalt blocks used to construct this house were likely sourced from local quarries on the island.

Located on the border between Embu das Artes and Cotia, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima is an impressive neo-Gothic temple under the care of the Heralds of the Gospel. Its construction began in 2004 and it was elevated to the status of a Minor Basilica by the Holy See in 2014. One of its great distinctions is that this masterpiece was sponsored by descendants of the Brazilian Imperial Family, adding a touch of nobility and history to the site. Furthermore, its bells come from the renowned French foundry Fonderie Paccard, the first of their kind to be installed in Brazil. A setting of faith and royalty that provided me with these unforgettable snapshots.

Located on Hawaii's Big Island’s Hamakua Coast (east shore), Laupahoehoe Point is a peninsula covered with coconut palms, grass and black lava rocks on the shoreline, which contrast beautifully with the deep blue ocean. On a sunny day, the ocean is particularly blue here.
Laupahoehoe is known for its scenic views, but it also holds a tragic past. It was here where a tsunami killed 19 schoolchildren and 5 adults on April Fool’s Day in 1946. The names and ages of the victims were engraved on a rock, which serves as a memorial in the park. The village was later relocated further inland to avoid another tragedy.

Located on Hwy 75 between Decatur and Macy NE, on the Omaha Reservation. The overview presents the Missouri River and Iowa's Loess Hills in the distance. Blackbird Hill, the burial site of the great Omaha Chief Blackbird, is nearby on private property, but the overlook near it gives a good approximation of what Lewis and Clark saw when they, with 10 men, climbed the hill to pay homage to the chief.

The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is located in the village of Sagano on the west side of Kyoto, Japan. Bagan is located on a broad plain along the Irrawaddy River some 500 km (311 mi.) north-northwest of Yangon, in the Mandalay Region, Myanmar. It became the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, which grew to encompass nearly all of present day Myanmar from the 9th to the 13th centuries. During that period some 1,000 stupas, 10,000 small temples, and 3,000 monasteries were built on the Plain of Bagan. Mongol invasions caused the kingdom to collapse in 1287. Subject to more than 400 earthquakes since 1904, much of Bagan's architecture has been lost.
In 2019, Bagan was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering an area of 50 sq. km (12,369 acres), UNESCO notes that the site includes "3,595 surviving monuments" and includes the Dhammayangyi Pagoda seen at left, built during the reign of King Narathu (ruled 1167-1171). Narathu ascended to the throne after murdering his father, King Alaungsithu (ruled 1112-1167) and his elder brother. This shot was taken looking east-southeast from the Shwesandaw Pagoda, built in 1057 by the founder of the Pagan Empire, King Anawrahta Minsaw (ruled 1044-1077).

Located in the heart of Kampot, Cambodia, lies an enchanted spot known as the Kampot Secret Lake. Locally called Tomnop Tek Krolar, this hidden gem is a picturesque natural wonder that offers a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life.
Kampot Secret Lake locates between the Kampot pepper plantations and the Phnom Chhnork cave. The beautiful lake is in the middle of lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains.
What’s amazing about the lake is that it was dug out of a former rice paddy and is fed by underground springs. The water is crystal clear and is home to a variety of fish and other aquatic life.
The Secret Lake Kampot history is very interesting to know. In fact, the lake is a dam that was built by slave laborers during the Khmer Rouge regime. The lake has an enormous size, and simply glancing at it might make you catch a glimpse of an unshakable time in Cambodian history.

Thorong La High Camp is a small settlement located on the popular Annapurna Circuit trekking trail in Nepal. It serves as an overnight stop for trekkers before attempting to cross the challenging Thorong La Pass. Here's some information about it:
Key Details:
Elevation: Approximately 4,880 meters (16,010 feet). This high altitude makes acclimatization crucial before staying here.
Location:
Situated in the Manang District of Nepal, on the eastern approach to Thorong La Pass. It's above Thorong Phedi (the lower base camp).
Purpose: Primarily a stopover point for trekkers aiming to cross Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters / 17,769 feet) the next day. Staying at High Camp shortens the ascent on the pass day.
Accommodation: There is typically only one basic tea house available at Thorong La High Camp. It offers limited facilities and can be very cold at night. Booking in advance might be difficult, and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
Conditions:
The environment is barren and exposed, with little to no vegetation. Temperatures can drop significantly, especially at night.
Considerations for Trekkers:
Altitude Sickness:
Due to the high elevation, there's a significant risk of altitude sickness. Spending a night or even a rest day in Manang (around 3,500 meters) and then a night in Yak Kharka (around 4,050 meters) or Ledar (around 4,200 meters) is highly recommended for acclimatization before reaching High Camp.
Physical Condition:
Reaching High Camp involves a steep uphill trek from Thorong Phedi. Trekkers need to be in good physical condition.
Weather: Weather conditions at this altitude can change rapidly. It's essential to be prepared for cold temperatures, strong winds, and potential snow even during the main trekking seasons (spring and autumn). Check the weather forecast before your trek.
Early Start: Trekkers staying at High Camp typically wake up very early (around 3-5 am) to begin their ascent to Thorong La Pass to avoid strong afternoon winds and potential bad weather.
Limited Facilities:
Be prepared for basic accommodation and food options at the tea house. Water needs to be treated or boiled for safety.
Staying at Thorong La High Camp offers a strategic advantage for crossing the pass, but it demands careful planning, proper acclimatization, and preparedness for challenging conditions.

Located on the intersection of Broadway and 12th Street, just south of Union Square in the East Village is an institution for New Yorkers the Strand Bookstore, one of my favorite places to go and browse through books. The store’s slogan which is prominent on its signs, stickers, magnets, t-shirts etc. is “18 Miles of Books” is fitting because as of last month, July 2016 their books numbered 2.5 million and prestigious New York Times calls the store “the undisputed king of the city’s independent bookstores.”
Not a chain bookstore, still owned by the family that opened the store back in 1927, the Bass family, is uniquely New York and the last vestige of what was called in the 1920’s ‘Book Row’, over on Fourth Avenue where the Strand was originally located. ‘Book Row’ consisted of 48 bookstores within six city blocks back in the roaring twenties. It was 1927 when a 25 year old Ben Bass, an ardent reader himself, borrowed some money to put together with his own savings to open a modest used book store. The name? Named after the famous street in London that had so much theatric and literary history tied to it, names like Charles Dickens and theaters like the Tivoli, the Strand and the Globe are synonymous with thoroughfare known as Strand.
Ben’s son Fred and granddaughter Nancy still run the establishment that consists of 200+ employees, three and half floors of books here at this location and a Central Park kiosk. They look to hire lovers of books, and judging by my encounters at the store, they’ve managed to do a great job. Outside the store on most days are portable wheeled stacks with used books extremely cheap in varying conditions which can be seen in this image. I’ve gotten some real bargains, I love older books with photography of the particular era when the book was published. It’s always fascinating to see how much things have changed and evolved or disappeared over time. Anybody who follows me knows I love history, and love reading history, and the stacks inside the store are equally inviting with modern publications and some obscure ones too. The Strand holds wonderful events at the store, conversation and dialogues with current authors, celebrities in a very laid back, relaxed and intimate setting. Whenever I’m in the Union Square area, I always find my way over to the Strand, and usually come out with a bag. Their motto is “The Strand is a place where books are loved and book lovers of all kind are always welcome,” and in my experience that is certainly the case well worth a quick stop if you are in the area.
