Located west of the spillway for Brookville Lake. It was a cool, windy fall day with beautiful clouds.

Located above Rt. 8 in Maysville in Northern Kentucky. Looks like a lot of additions over the years. Steep hillside to mow. A struggle to maintain.
Located at a crossroads south of Hillsboro in north east central Kentucky. Little is left of this community that once had a hotel, population of 200, and a handful of mills. About two miles south of the Grange-Hillsboro covered bridge. Rural Kentucky contains some amazing sites.
Located in downtown Montour Falls at the end of a small public park. There is parking in this residential area for two cars and when I arrived both spots were open.
Waterflow on this July day was not as heavy as other falls in the area but still makes for a nice photo. If you are a waterfall junkie, the finger lakes area of upset New York has a lot, many are less than 5 minutes’ walk from parking while others are further.
Located on Chief's Island, which was returned to the Coos Indian Tribe. The future of this lighthouse is uncertain, it is supposed to be restored and reopened to the public, but there is no funding for the project, which would involve restoring the bridge to the island. My wife and I rented a house on Lighthouse Way, this view is not accessible by the public.
Located in the ruins of the Wastelands...it must have been romantical at one time..

Cafe in The Rot
Angharad Greggan created everything in The Rot (store is Razor Bird). There are the sea and caves, twisting stairs to unexpectedness and rooms with things left behind...
Located at 12 Eldridge Street, NYC in the Lower East Side. This beautifully restored building was built in 1887 and is now a National Historic Landmark.
This castle, located in Pouilly in the Mâconnais region, is unfortunately marred by unsightly electric wires. So, I removed most of these wires from the photo using my photo editing software. It took some time, but the result was worth it! It allows us to appreciate the beauty of this residence.
Someone should really consider burying some of the power lines in this area!

The Old Railroad Trestle
(located in River Walk, downtown Murphy NC)
This old trestle crosses the Valley River and carries the rail that once conneced Murphy to Andrews, NC.
Archeological evidence indicates that this is not the original railroad bridge built when the railroad connected Murphy to points east. When the river is very low, you might be able to observe old wooden footers under the existing bridge that would have been the foundation for an earlier, wooden trestle.
These old wooden footers would have been built on shore, then floated to position before being sunk and filled with rocks to hold them in place. The wooden trestle would have been built up from this new foundation.
Just when the newer steel bridge replaced the wooden trestle is not known exactly. Presumably the new bridge was needed to carry larger and heavier trains necessary to service this growing area.
This beautiful old steel bridge stands silent now. It stands now as a monument to busier times. No train has crossed here since THE LAST TRAIN LEFT MURPHY ON JULY 4, 1992.

Located along Rana Fjord in Norway. This was taken while our ship is transitting the Fjord. Looks like it was shot from a drone but it's not, the house is on the middle of the mountain and I took the photo from the ship while we are passing.
Located off Hwy 178 not far from Rosman, North Carolina... When I visited this waterfall the first few times it was on land open to the public. Eventually it was sold and now the waterfall sits on private property with no access. The first day I came, it was very bright and sunny, but I loved it so much I returned the next day and reaped the benefits of cloud cover. I think this waterfall is especially beautiful.
Located in the constellation of Cygnus, this diffuse emission nebula is approximately 5000 light years from Earth. The bright star is Sadr or Gamma Cygni.
This image is a close up of an area of the Butterfly nebula beside it. I decided to look more closely at this area as I felt it would be interesting at a longer focal length. You can see an image of how this fits in with the Butterfly nebula as well as an annotated image on my website www.swagastro.com/ic1318.html

Located in the Urubamba Valley, aka the Sacred Valley, most archeologists now believe that Machu Picchu was the private estate of the 9th Inca emperor Pachacuti or Pachacútec. Once the Inca emerged from their ancestral lands around the border area of modern Peru and Bolivia, and began to conquer vast tracts of land, they established their capital at the site of modern day Cusco, Peru around 1420. Just like all roads led to Rome in the Roman Empire, thousand of miles of roads and trails led to Cusco in the Inca Empire. Neither Machu Picchu nor Cusco were ever completed due to the Spanish conquest that began with a military campaign by Francisco Pizarro in 1532. It took 40 years to finally vanquish the Inca. Pizarro was only successful due to a civil war caused by the sons of Pachacútec. He was able to recruit the emperor's rival brother to his side. Machu Picchu was used as a stronghold by the Inca for many years but was eventually abandoned. Terraces below the main level were used to grow food especially maize which was used to make a fermented drink used in festivities and rituals. (There's little doubt that the beverage was called 'Hazy Maizy.")

Located in Cape Le Grand National Park, Esperance (Western Australia). Frenchman Peak was named by surveyor Alexander Forrest in 1870. The peak’s shape was thought to resemble the hats worn by French troops in the 1800s.
Located in Shimen District, New Taipei City, Laomei Green Reefs derive from volcanic matters of Datun Mountains. After a long time of sea erosions, their soft parts are gone, leaving the hard compounds that look like ditches. As waves hit the reef surfaces under northeast monsoons, green algae such as sea lettuce and “green hair” slowly grow. The result is the amazing seasonal scene of Laomei Green Reefs.
Located in downtown Richmond along the James River, the Historic Tredegar site is home to an award-winning 30,000 sq. ft. Museum surrounding the industrial ruins of Tredegar Ironworks. The building contains two galleries for exhibits (one permanent, two rotating) and has over 500 artifacts on display.
Founded in 1837, Tredegar Ironworks was one of the country’s largest industrials sites before the Civil War and the largest in the Confederacy, supplying about half of the artillery for the Confederate Army.
