Located in Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia, Katherine Gorge is a series of 13 deep gorges carved through ancient sandstone by the Katherine River.

At this time of the year Katherine Gorge waters are ideal for swimming and canoeing. Although there are freshwater crocodiles in the river (they nest along the banks), they're harmless as their jaws are not big or strong enough to take a human. I only saw one crocodile on this day and nobody went swimming.

Located south of Winchester Bay, OR, this area is home to the tallest sand dunes in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Umpqua Beach #2 Day Use and OHV Staging Area provides parking and access for pedestrian beach access as well as off-highway vehicle (OHV) staging for open sand riding opportunities in the Umpqua (ump - kwah) dunes. A ride to the top of a tall dune offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

We were over in the area to view the King Tides, which didn't appear this day. So we filled our time exploring the many back roads along the coast and beaches we had never seen before. The day was a bit windy and rain rolled through occasionally, but this just added to "charm" of the place. After a little research I found that Oregon choose to plant European Beach Grass because it could withstand the Oregon weather better.

The El Villar reservoir is located in the lower reaches of the Lozoya river, in the Sierra de Guadarrama (Community of Madrid). It is the oldest in operation in the entire region and in the entire Canal de Isabel II reservoir system, a network that supplies drinking water to the capital of Spain and a large part of the Community of Madrid.

It was completed and inaugurated in 1873 as the highest dam in Spain, although it has already been surpassed. Over the course of more than a century it has undergone various renovations and is still in service today.

In 1911 the El Villar canal, then called Canal Transversal, was put into service, through which water could be supplied to Madrid, taken directly from the reservoir. Newberry Volcano is a large active shield-shaped stratovolcano located about 20 miles (32 km) south of Bend, Oregon, United States, 35 miles (56 km) east of the major crest of the Cascade Range, within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Its highest point is Paulina Peak. The largest volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, Newberry has an area of 1,200 square miles (3,100 km2) when its lava flows are taken into account. From north to south, the volcano has a length of 75 miles (121 km), with a width of 27 miles (43 km) and a total volume of approximately 120 cubic miles (500 km3). It was named for the geologist and surgeon John Strong Newberry, who explored central Oregon for the Pacific Railroad Surveys in 1855. The surrounding area has been inhabited by Native American populations for more than 10,000 years.

Located at the entrance to the village of Fuissé (coming from Chaintré), the fountain du Romanin has been highlighted since 1722 by a pretty washhouse which will be rebuilt in 1848.

Sanctified, the source has an impressive flow especially in spring and even in great drought would not dry up. Its water comes from a Jurassic circus located behind the village of Fuissé.

According to local tradition, a Roman lord, named Fussiacus, would have settled nearby, giving at the same time his name to the village.

Palazzo Mincuzzi located on one of the main streets of Bari and it is owned by the merchant family, the Mincuzzi who inaugurated their studio in 1928.

Located in the Napoleonic quarter Murat on the corner between Via Sparano and Via Putignani, its project, in delicate and refined Style Liberty, is due to the architect Aldo Forcignanò, who conceived an effective and extremely scenic corner solution.

The façade of the building is made up of a succession of columns, beaded pilasters, Ionic capitals, masks, and, above, there is the monumental family banner. The interior, one of the most striking examples of Southern Italy Art Nouveau style, includes a monumental staircase and it is all illuminated by the glass dome that dominates the building.

Over time the Palazzo Mincuzzi has become the symbolic place of Bari and one of the most prestigious shops in Bari. In 2001, however, the Mincuzzi family decided to close an era and rent its building to the clothing company of Luciano Benetton.

After the change of ownership, many people feared the distortion of what for all the Baresi had always been a symbol of a history of trade and cultural exchanges. Located 20km north of Parkes in New South Wales, Australia. The Parkes Radio Telescope, often referred to as 'The Dish', was completed in 1961. The 64 m dish was one of several radio antennae used to receive live television images of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

Located three blocks west of the Illinois State Capitol Building is the Sargent Office Building, home of the Illinois Municipal League (IML). The building is named for A. L. "Lon" Sargent, who served as executive director of the IML from 1943 to 1968, and his son, Steven Sargent, IML executive director from 1968 to 1989.

This beaux-arts style office building was completed in 1912 and, until the early 1930s, was the clubhouse of the Sangamo Club, a private dining city club for business, government and community leaders. The Illinois Municipal League first established offices here in 1935, and has owned the building since the late 1980s.

The Sargent Building is a contributing building within the 2015 Extension of the Central Springfield Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Scurdie Ness is a headland located on the South side of the River South Esk estuary, Montrose, Angus, Scotland. The River leads from the North Sea into Montrose Harbour and then into Montrose Basin. The headland has also been referred to as Scurdie Ness, Montrose point or Montroseness. The word Scurdie is a local word for the volcanic rock found there and Ness means a promontory, cape or headland. The coastline from Scurdie Ness to Rickle Craig has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Scurdie Ness Lighthouse is located on the headland and has also been referred to as Montroseness Lighthouse. In 1867 the seafaring community of Ferryden made representations to the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses to have a light established on Montrose Point due to the numerous shipwrecks and great loss of life along that coast. There are 11 wrecks recorded around the mouth of the estuary.

The lighthouse was built by David Stevenson and Thomas Stevenson and at 6 pm on Tuesday 1 March 1870 the tower was lit for the first time. During World War II the lighthouse was temporarily painted black so that it could not be used by the German bombers as a daytime reference point. The light was not illuminated except when requested by the Royal Navy.

The lighthouse is a category B listed building of architectural/historic interest, Historical Scotland Building ID: 4958. Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland - Canmore ID: 36262

Originally the light characteristic was fixed white but in 1907 was changed to isophase white 60 seconds (i.e., light 30 seconds, eclipse 30 seconds). Scurdie Ness lighthouse was converted to automatic operation in 1987 and now displays 3 white flashes separated by 2.5 seconds and repeated every 20 seconds. The light is 182,000 candlepower and on a clear night can be seen for approximately 42 km.

The buildings within the grounds of the lighthouse are now privately owned. Cars are not allowed along the road leading from Ferryden to the lighthouse but it is a popular walk and sightings of seals and dolphins are not unusual. Whales are sometimes seen in the area including rare sightings of humpback whales.

The bridge Gretsi is located below the village Palaiopyrgos at Pogoni area in Epirus. It bridges Gormos river at Gretsi place. It was a passage for the locals who used it to go to their fields and the mill.

It has three arches, acquired to the rocks. The big one bridges the cliff that is located directly underneath it and the water creates a waterfall!

I found myself in the area of Palaiopirgos in November without having it planned. It was in the evening and I had just a little time until dark. Arriving at Paleopirgos there was absolute wilderness. There was no one to ask for information and I was just standing out of the car waiting for the ‘deus ex machine’. And he did come in a farm truck. He informed me that the access was impossible for that time. Approaching it with my own car was difficult due to bad road and hiking was a dangerous case because of the sheepdogs of the area. I decided to leave and come back better prepared at the earliest opportunity. Eventually not only did I see the bridge but I also photographed it. A big thank you to Christos Mentis from Kefalovriso , Pogoni for taking the time to guide me to the bridge.

Κανείς για πληροφορίες κι εγω έξω απο το αυτοκίνητο να περιμένω τον απο μηχανής θεό.Ο απο μηχανής θεός εμφανίστηκε σε ένα αγροτικό .Με πληροφόρησε οτι η πρόσβαση ήταν ακατόρθωτη για εκείνη την ώρα . Η προσέγγιση με το δικό μου αυτοκίνητο δύσκολη λόγω κακού δρόμου και η περίπτωση πεζοπορίας επικίνδυνη λόγω των τσομπανόσκυλων της περιοχής.Αποφάσισα να επιστρέψω και να επανέλθω καλύτερα προετοιμασμένη σε πρώτη ευκαιρία. Τελικά οχι απλά είδα το γεφύρι αλλά και το φωτογράφισα. Ενα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στο Χρήστο Μεντή απο το Κεφαλόβρυσο Πωγωνίου για το χρόνο που διέθεσε για να με οδηγήσει στο γεφύρι .

No one should ever underestimate the impact that German immigrants have had on Texas. German settlers were in Texas from the beginning of the Colonial period, but at the end of the Mexican War large numbers of Germans and others immigrated to Texas because of the mild climate and cheap land.

One such German immigrant was Heinrich Kreische. He arrived in Fayette County in 1849 and purchased 172 acres on a bluff overlooking the Colorado River above La Grange. This land included the land where the Dawson/Meir tomb is located. He honored those who gave their life for Texas by maintaining the tomb his whole life.

Mr. Kreische was a master stone mason and over a period time built a three story stone home on the bluff. He was also involved in the construction of many stone structures in Fayette County. I've noticed in my travels that German stone masons have been involved in almost every major stone building in Texas in the 19th century, from the Capitol Building in Austin to the Fort in Fort Davis, Texas.

Heinrich Kreische

In 1860 Mr. Kreische began building one of the first breweries in Texas. He cleverly built it in a ravine below his house that was feed water from a spring that he used in the production of beer. By the middle of the Civil War the brewery was producing beer in a nine step brewing process with an ingenious gravity feed water system. When a new batch of beer was ready a large banner was raised that said "Frisch Auf" (Freshen Up). This was an invitation to the community to come to the bluff and enjoy a picnic, dancing, games and a stein or two or three of "Kreische's Bluff Beer"!

In 1882 Heinrich Kreische, German immigrant, master stone mason, and brew master, was killed in a wagon accident.

Saigon is located just to the north of Mekong Delta. But the Saigon river, by which Saigon is located, is not a branch nor a tributary of the Mekong river.

The bridge over the Saigon river is Cầu Ba Son or the Ba Son bridge. It was just completed in 2022.

Vietnam embarked on Đổi Mới, an economic reform programme, in 1986 with the goal of "socialist-oriented market economy." It consisted of privatisation, promotion of foreign direct investment, normalisation of diplomatic relations etc., which resulted in a rapid economic growth that still continues today.

Vietnam is expected to be a next factory of the world replacing the current role of China. It is noted, however, that Vietnam is still a one-party dictatorship, and the government still maintains a grip on the state-owned corporations like China does. It is not certain if the current government regime would survive in the future as the economic development is conducive to democratic reforms.

St Athernase Church is a Romanesque church located in Leuchars, Fife, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building and remains in use as a Church of Scotland parish church.

The chancel and half-round apse date from the 12th century with the exterior featuring blind arcades with typical Norman arches. The church was granted by Ness son of William, Lord of Leuchars, to the canons of St Andrews in 1185. Around 1700 a belfry was added, and in 1858 restoration was carried out to the nave.

The church is open to the public in summer, at other times by arrangement. Relics preserved inside include part of a 9th-century cross-slab found near the village (closely comparable to the large collection at St Andrews Cathedral), and three elaborate 16th century memorial stones of the Bruce's of Earlshall, the local lairds. One of the latter shows a full length figure of a woman, naïve in execution, but valuable in documenting contemporary dress.

The oft-mentioned dedication of the medieval church of Leuchars to St Athernase is actually an error. It arises from a nineteenth-century misreading of a list of church dedications in the Register of St Andrews Priory, a medieval manuscript now in the National Archives of Scotland. Folio 155v. has a list of churches dedicated, or re-dedicated, by bishop David de Bernham of St Andrews in the 1240s. The eighth church in this list is 'ecclesia sancti Johannis euangeliste et sancti Athernisci confessoris de Losceresch (the church of St John the evangelist and St Athernase the confessor). However the church of Losceresch is not the church of Leuchars, which in medieval sources is spelt Lochris, Locres etc., but the parish church of Lathrisk (now Kettle parish in Fife), whose early spellings are Losresc (1170s), Loseresch, Losseresc (1227) and such like. Athernase is the patron saint not of Leuchars but of Lathrisk.

The patron of Leuchars is not known for certain, but some medieval sources indicate a local cult of St Bonoc, a name unknown outside the parish of Leuchars, and a chapel of St Bonoc, complete with chaplain, is known to have existed.

"Athernase" may be an anglicised form of the name Itharnán, found also in Fife at Kilrenny, and on the Isle of May, an Irish missionary who "died among the Picts" in 669 according to the Annals of Ulster.

The Brabo Fountain (Brabofontein) is located in the Grote Markt (Main Square) of Antwerp, in front of the Town Hall of the city. The ceremonial inauguration of the sculpture took place in 1887. Jef Lambeaux realized the set of the bronze fountain.

The reason is the legend of the name of the city, in which it is said that the giant Druon Antigoon cut off a hand to all the ship captains who moored in the area and refused to pay toll, then throwing it to the Scheldt. The captain of the Roman army Brabo cut off the giant's hand imitating what he had done. The fountain reflects the moment when the Brabo throws the giant's hand into the river.

According to this legend, the etymology of the name of the city Antwerp is a composition of the Dutch words "(h)ant" (hand) and "werpen" (launch).

However, John Lothrop Motley argues, and so do a lot of Dutch etymologists and historians, that Antwerp's name derives from "anda" (at) and "werpum" (wharf) to give an 't werf (on the wharf, in the same meaning as the current English wharf). Aan 't werp (at the warp) is also possible. This "warp" (thrown ground) is a man-made hill or a river deposit, high enough to remain dry at high tide, whereupon a construction could be built that would remain dry. Another word for werp is pol (dyke) hence polders (the dry land behind a dyke, that was no longer flooded by the tide)
