An old lobster trap waits beside the ocean at the Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

I am here at this beautiful resort this week to teach a photography workshop centered around the sea. One of the lessons that I hope to share with my students is to "find an anchor for the viewer's eye." Here the lobster pot "anchors" the viewer's attention. Your eye can roam all about the frame but if I did my work well it should come back to rest right there on the old trap.

Lobster is big business in Nova Scotia. There is so much lobster there that it's not that expensive. Subway had 'lobster sandwiches' as part of their regular menu!! It's anywhere from 6-9$ per lb., but on the west coast lobster is shipped in from Nova Scotia so the cost goes way up to 20-30$ per lb.
