Thanks for looking!

In days gone well by, Dalkeith's makeshift 'bus station' was situated at Crystalmount (High St) and this scene from 1965 shows passengers loading a splendid AEC Regent bound for Birkenside. The Regent, (in busman's parlance 'the BB') is working route 89 from Edinburgh to Birkenside via Gilmerton, Easthouses low road and Newtongrange and has arrived at the stop already well-laden which is hardly surprising given that the route was one of SMT's busiest. The route was rostered jointly from Dalkeith and New St depots - BB85A being a New Street working. Seen opposite is SMT's Dalkeith office and garage, note the green gates to left of office which accessed the depot yard. The garage, opened in 1931 closed in 1966 when the new Bus Station/depot was built Eskbank Road.

Passengers on the top deck will be sitting 4-abreast as this bus had a side-gangway, but will 'enjoy' the luxury of two sunlights and of course the smart ornate coach-work by H Burlingham of Blackpool. The downside of side-gangways was watching your head as you got up to get off! New in 1950 the bus had just been re-painted into 'Lothian Green' livery but its rusting radiator chrome perhaps gives away its age. Oh the nostalgia !

The convoy approaches the Greater Manchester boarder.

Yesterday (17/7/12) Greater Manchester Police and Cheshire Constabulary escorted one of the largest abnormal loads to be moved on the region’s roads for many years.

The load, an electricity transformer, was being moved from Ellesmere Port to Rochdale on a specialist vehicle. The total weight of the vehicle and load was almost 450 tonnes.

Cheshire Constabulary escorted the vehicle to the Force border where Greater Manchester Police took over the duty.

The two forces, local authorities, Network Rail, and the Highways Agency were involved in detailed planning of the operation to ensure that the vehicle reached its destination safely and caused as little disruption to normal traffic as possible.

The Greater Manchester leg of the journey began at 8pm and concluded in the early hours of the morning.

Compare with this image of a 1950s abnormal load escort from the archives of our Force Museum.

This is my "no words" layout. This is my daughters first "school" photo, taken at daycare last October. The cogs and timepieces are supposed to represent the passing of time - as I was scrapping this I was thinking of all the many school photos I have to look forward to in the future.

I recently speculated as to whether the small rusty ship in the foreground was used to periodically remove scrap. That turned out to be a dredger and is absolutely dwarfed by the ship which does.

Talis was built in 1992 in Germany. She is operated by WE-Ships who are based in Istanbul. She is 81.8m in length and draws around 4.6m empty, so would be sitting on the mud here. She can carry up to 106,000 tons.

A button page today! Finally used some of the old ones I dug out of my mom's wonderful button box. And how fitting on a page about her! Doily papers are from Studio Calico. A fun and easy page about a wonderful lady!

The loading process for ATV-4 Albert Einstein begins at the Guiana Space Centre, Kourou, French Guiana. Lift-off is set for Spring 2013. During January, the big M1 cargo bags are being loaded into ATV as part of nominal cargo loading. A second opportunity for cargo loading comes towards the end of March, when ATV will already be vertical on top of the Ariane launcher.

One of the many household chores that Floydd really seems to enjoy is laundry.

He likes everything about it! He likes to jump into the different piles of clothes while I am sorting them into different loads. He thinks that jumping into the folding mesh basket is very entertaining, and even likes it when I carry him down the steps bundled up in it with the next load on it's way to the basement.

. The sound of the dryer door opening, means that he'll be right there to jump inside and nestle in the warm , clean clothes and swat at my hand every time I reach in to take the next item out to fold. And of course, when I extract him from the dryer, he is only too happy to lay on top of any and all folded piles of clothes. No matter how you cut it, I'm going to ALWAYS have cat hair on my clothing!

I'm off to the Flower Show tomorrow, so I'll catch up with everyone Wed. Have a great day everyone!

After arriving at SRI the 765 takes on a fresh load of coal that will take the crews well into the night before finally being able to rest for a few days before the event. This was the beginning of a amazing week but a very long and sleepless week.
