Just about my last spin of the night down on the old jetty at Chemical beach @ Seaham, whilst out n about with Bry, Chillie 63 & Davie K.

A touch of Mg in the mix & some green gel lighting from Chillie, good fun indeed :-))

Well the sound waves and vibrations proved to much for the swirly orb! Managed to capture just what happens when the wind blows hard up there :)

Shy green orb by the fountain.

This is the first attempt to create a light orb. It sure is hard to create a perfect round orb!

Dont mind the background and stuff, i just wanted to check if i could create a round orb :)

Test shot straight out of the camera. It's nice to have a one of these torches again. I was very sad when the old one got broken.

This shot is a nod to Denis... aka biskitboy. If it hadn't been for a very kind reply to an email that I sent him after seeing his work on flickr and linking to his web site, I would never have got into flickr and light painting. And, probably put my camera into a dusty box in the roof!

It was he who encouraged me to join flickr and since I have discovered a real love for my camera. This then led me into the lightpainting community here.

From this I can safely say all of you rock. And a big thanks from me for all the encouragement kind comments and support!!

Keep up the great work.

Orbage at the seaside, next to the slippery seaweed and the crashing waves, so I chickened out from my original intention to go out to the half-submerged rocks. Straight out of the camera with custom white balance.

Light Painting (Light Art Photography) Digital vs. Film Comparison - 1

Here is the same shot taken with two different cameras. The top photo was taken with a Nikon D700 Digital SLR Camera with a 50mm lens, the bottom photo was taken with a Voitlander VSL 3E 35mm Film Camera, also with a 50mm Lens. (Fujifilm 200)

Note: The Nikon had settings adjusted for custom white balance and also the saturation levels were bumped up.

I'm enjoying capturing these orbs up above me... They seem to take on a whole new look.

It was a nice hour a spent down the beach before the crazyness of the last two days started.

I hope everyone is enjoying there Christmas break.

Bry & myself down on the beach trying out our newly made lights. One eye on the lightpainting & one on the incoming tide!! LOL ;-)

Thanks to all of the Amble tog's who came down from up North to visit the area, a cracking bunch of peeps indeed :-))

The Nâzgul told Sauron he shouldn't self medicate.

My first attempt at 'doing' a light orb and light painting with a torch, then also, my first attempt at combining images in Photoshop using Layer Mask.

Like the other shot a bit more, and neither one as much as i would have liked.

This was taken by burning steel wool.

Also as an added note; I would wear long sleeves/hoodie. I almost burnt my hair again.

Back to some light painting after too much time away... A trip down the beach in the full moon for a bit of what I really love. Had about an hour down there... Took about 8 shots and had at least 5 keepers, which after so much time away was a a bonus.... Oh yeah thanks Denis for the motivation to get of my fat arse too!!!!

our wait for an aurora on an impossible night led us to find ways to amuse ourselves. A fine performance from Steve

Starting a little light painting series I took in Stuttgart with my E-M5 after the Olympus OM-D E-M1 event on October 3rd.

This picture has been taken in a single shot. I only added some FHDR processing afterwards.

So, my parents told me a lot when i was younger "Never meet anyone off the internet because they will turn out to men in their 30's!!"........And they were right, but at least i knew that from the start (Jeez, now i hope they aren't in their 20's, that could be offensive haha!)

Met up with www.flickr.com/photos/allanengland/ and www.flickr.com/photos/fellwalker1/ for my first light painting session outside of my own house. Great night out (from about 19:00 til 23:15 i think!?), surprisingly warm but we were playing with fire and i didn't have to travel too far!

Great to meet you both, thanks to Allan for being very generous with his Magnesium and to Mike for some hints and tips!

Very first outing with the Ball of Light Tool, made and designed by Denis Smith which arrived from Australia last week. The tool comes with interchangeable heads for a variety of colours and textures.

Still got lots of learning to do and practising to make the perfect orb rather than some of the ones I did last night which had flat tops, or were elongated in other ways, but looking forward to perfecting my technique and creating orbs in various lcations around Dorset and beyond.

... watching the Big Dipper over Munich. Or vice versa. ;-)

This picture has been taken in a single exposure during the EJC 2011 . No pixels have been added or removed.

Hmm. In response to Narco Polo's reference to a light spider, I sort of thought this one from a while back might have been a bit like a spider, but looking at it again, not really. More like a T4 Bacteriophage.

Mono version of the light orb photo taken at Thornton fever hospital.

It's an orb in a churchyard next to the Tyne Bridge.

30s exposure, Straight from RAW, a bit of lowering of the contrast and warming up the WB.

Sussing out the possibilities of Newcastle quayside. There's potential here. I reckon a bit of spirographing would do the job nicely on those pillars and overhead beams. Have to be a collaborative effort though, lest longer exposure made the light pollution too unbearable.

Our Daily Challenge

I did a few light orbs while we were at Usery Regional Park the past couple of days. Just got back and will catch up to your photos as soon as I can. I used a small LED flashlight to create this one on road in front of our campsite.

Have a good day!

So last night I went out to Ironstones walk in Banbury to try and take some photos of Emma in the mist and ice, unfortunatly about 5 minutes after setting up it started to chuck it down with rain, so after a quick couple of snaps in the rain we had to leg it for cover. I think it worked out quite well for this shot though as the backlighting has caught the rain and the fog to create a pretty eye catching setting.

Thanks to all visitors of my flickr stream! Thanks to YOU! 50.000 clicks have been counted within the last 33 months since I have started publishing pictures here. For me, this is really great and unexpected! I had a lot of fun taking all these (and much more) pictures but when I started, I never thought, so many people would ever watch my pictures. And so, I want to thank you again. Go on like that! ;-) I hope I will find the time for new pictures. And - for watching and commenting on more of your wonderful pictures as well.

And as there's always room for improvement, here's a different version of my "jubilee picture". Another five light orbs, also realized together with David Kracht.

Which one do you like more? Or are you missing colours in both? I really would like to hear your opinion.

Very first outing with the Ball of Light Tool, made and designed by Denis Smith which arrived from Australia last week. The tool comes with interchangeable heads for a variety of colours and textures.

Theres nowt like failing at the last hurdle and this was getting pretty close. Still had half hour in the bag though, but I was in a bit of a panic as about 20mins before this it was peeing it down and I didn't have all my camera gear with me, just a few orb strings and a tripod (oh yes the actual camera too - edit after Mikes comment)!! Oh well it all worked out OK in the end.

As a lot of people and friends ask me to go out to do orbs, I thought I would mix it up a bit. I didn't want to use wire wool as I knew the location where I was going to was a bit cramped and I didn't feel comfortable using wire wool in the confined area. So I decided to substitute with some sparklers.

This was a test in my back garden, (which I often do) to get the weight of my cable with the sparklers attached. A little more weight is required, as in this shot you can see that it starts to wander at the top of the spin. Nothing a few fishing weights or a few nuts from my DIY box won't fix. Worked well and a lot safer than wire wool for the uninitiated.
