Lightning behind Darwin harbours tug boats, from a multi cell thunderstorm that lasted several hours in the early hours of 17th December 2016
An unbelievable lightning storm last night passed us by to the North. This is an 8-second exposure. To watch it in real time was just amazing. Constant flickering with bolts coming out of the clouds with a speed that seemed like a time-lapse.
Here is the video I took with my phone.
One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to sit on the beach in the evening and watch the storms off the coast. The air is cool and clear on shore, but violent storms are raging out over the water. The lightning rivals any fireworks display.
Here is one from the storm earlier in the week...I merged 9 shots for this one...Only problem with it was there were 6 powerlines right through the middle that I had to remove...I am hopeless with PS but Lightroom wasn't doing a good job of it so persevered with PS and finally got there I think.Only my second try at merging lightning..

Lightning between Cape May, Cape Henlopen and Rehoboth Beach. If you enlarge the photo, a few lights from Cape May can be seen on the horizon.
I got a chance at some lightning attempts this morning.( inside my garage). This one was a little too close for my liking. Not all that great of a shot, but still it was a blast trying.
I set out at 4am to shoot some new marketing content for a regular client at the Antioch, CA marina.
Well, as luck would have it, just after I framed up my shot, a burst of cloud to ground lightning struck directly behind the building. There was not a hint of any lightning after that, so I was pretty sure I was done for the day, as none of the subsequent photos were anywhere near as exciting as this one, lol.

When stacking lighting frames (in this case 18 frames), there is always a tendency to overdue the number of strikes. A balance between too many and too few is challenging. In this image, I could've used more than twice as many frames but the impact due to the loss of detail would have been obvious.
This lightning storm was captured using my Fujifilm X-T3, Fujinon 16-55mm @ 16mm, f/2.8, iso 3200, 0.25s exp per frame (movie mode @ 4K), I cropped the clip and extracted only the best strikes. Most lightning occurred between 15 and 25 miles to my south. This activity was over a 6.5 minute period.

In late July of 2016 we were treated to some insanely beautiful and powerful lightning displays in the midwest. By all accounts I probably should be dead from having been this close!
A spectacular lightning heat the sea off the coast of Kavala a city in the northern part of Greece. Clouds are cover the blue moon in the sky
My first ever lightning photos.
I went down to the beach to have a quiet dinner and shoot a few sunset pics. A typical summer storm rolled in from the south, moving off shore. I must have shot 40-50 pictures until I got two strikes. They are not the best, but I am realy happy to have finally taken a lightning picture. I will have to read up on suggested settings...
Next time I will bring a tripod.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my photo..... Mike
