The only perk from leaving work at 9 p.m. this evening. Caught this light show at Clymers, IN. Based on the weather report this line was on the OH/IN state line. The thunderheads must have been up to 50,000 to 60,000 feet. This is impressive since this photo was taken from North Central Indiana.
Lightning striking the side of Moelwyn Bach. This was taken from our garden shed. There is a gap between the trees which allows a clear view down the valley.

Well...our Storms and Saguaros Workshop ended with a bang! A huge storm was moving in at sunset and filled the sky with the most dramatic colors. Everyone was frantically blowing water droplets off our lenses as the wind whipped around us, My lightning trigger was firing like crazy and caught this dramatic frame-filling double cloud to ground strike! With the winds we had on this stormy evening, a solid tripod was critical in getting this shot! Make sure you check out my tripod video!
As a workshop instructor, one of the biggest weaknesses I see with people's gear is their tripod. So I recorded video discussing my best tips and tricks for using a tripod in the field along with what to look for when buying a new one.
Captured a lightning bolt striking The Center building tonight at around 6:45PM from my bedroom window in Mid-Levels, Hong Kong. 10 second exposure.

This storm was about 55 mile away. I used a Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 manual lens (ignore 16mm and f/1.0 specs at right).
Developing storms over western Belgium looked promising, so we gave it a try and drove to the southwestern part of the Netherlands.
The lightning in the province of Zeeland was dissapointing, to say the least. However, just to our east storms became way more active and we captured this shot on a parking place near Roosendaal (Noord-Brabant).
This was just around midnight. The next hours we kept chasing these storms all the way to the vicinity of Utrecht. We only stopped when daylight returned.
For me one of the best lightning chases in The Low Countries.....
