As i was tucking myself in for a good night sleep, i was rudely awakened. So i grabbed my camera, screwed it on a tripod and fired away.
My very first lightning shots.
Good night, folks! :)

In late July of 2016 we were treated to some insanely beautiful and powerful lightning displays in the midwest. By all accounts I probably should be dead from having been this close!
I've admired other people's lightning shots this summer. I haven't had a chance to get one... until recently. Finally, I have 1 frame with a lightening bolt.
MONOCHROMATIC GOODNESS!!
Lightning strikes over Lincoln County in Las Vegas NV. Unfortunately I was at work and couldn't take pictures when the best strikes were happening so I wasn't watching. But, my coworkers were oooo and ahhhing saying "that was a good one!" etc. Soon as I got off from work I rushed home to grab my gear and drove to my spot for lightning up north. =)
Previously, hours and days were spent trying to capture lightning striking a tall tower. Now lightning striking The WTC Spire is a common occurrence during a storm.

My first ever successful capture of lightning.
So many times in the past when there has been a thunderstorm its been tipping down with rain and no flashes directly in front of the window.
Lightning breaks in every direction near the Ground between Mt Somerville and Mt Tomewin. View over the New South Wales border from the Queensland Gold Coast hinterland.
As it was so noisy last night I thought I'd chance my luck and try to get a lightning image as the storms raged over head. I was rewarded with this shot from the spare bedroom window, just before 2.00 am this morning. Tired now!
A selected lightning bolt photo from the thunderstorms on the 4th of November 2025 over Athens.
On the right side, one can see the Panathenaic Stadium. On the center-left side there is the southern part of mt. Imittos.

An unbelievable lightning storm last night passed us by to the North. This is an 8-second exposure. To watch it in real time was just amazing. Constant flickering with bolts coming out of the clouds with a speed that seemed like a time-lapse.
Here is the video I took with my phone.

In the late afternoon thunderstorms developed over the Italian Alps near Riva del Garda. They drifted southeast towards Rovereto.
Storms continuously developed upstream so it was not too difficult to find a spot for several hours of lightning activity.
As is often the case with such trailing storms, almost all lightning was IC and CC. I didn't see a single CG......
Nonetheless the CC that I witnessed were spectacular at times.....
One of the first (and best) lightning photos I've ever taken. Recently had to edit it black and white for a customer. I love the drama the black and white edit gives it. The lights in the left lower corner are the cattle sale barn at the north end of our town. While I didn't get the lights of the whole town, I think this proves just how small we really are.
