After seeing my Big Bang Theory background used on The Totally Rad Show, I felt inspired to create some more backgrounds for them.
This particular graphic was inspired by the poster for the film Super 8. As usual, I created everything from scratch in Adobe Photoshop CS5.1. The clouds are a photo I took of the sky, the horizon is a wiggly line I painted, and the searchlights are simple linear gradients interacting with the layers beneath them.
If you view the graphic full-size at 1920 x 1080, you'll notice it has a grainy film-poster look to it. This was achieved by adding 3% noise.
