Original triangular lantern light fittings hang in front of the soot aged fire-place of Hermit's Rest.
Chas has been quite inventive with this idea. The copper inside the lamp reflects light beautifully and the mosaic work picks up the colour again on the outside.
Irene of Chrysovalantou was born in Cappadocia to an aristocratic family during the 9th century and became abbess of the monastery of Chrysovalantou. She died at the age of more than 100 years old. Her feast day is celebrated on 28th July.

We went there to see Blue Öyster Cult. It's a lovely old-fashioned art deco building (built 1934) of the type I thought had disappeared completely. When the lights came up I was taken by this light fitting and the gorgeous colour of the ceiling.
The four-faced brass clock on top of the information booth, perhaps the most recognizable icon of Grand Central, was designed by Henry Edward Bedford and cast in Waterbury, Connecticut. Each of the four clock faces is made from opalescent glass (now often called opal glass or milk glass), though urban legend has it that the faces are made of opal and that Sotheby's and Christie's have estimated their value to be between $10 million and $20 million. Within the marble and brass pagoda lies a "secret" door that conceals a spiral staircase leading to the lower-level information booth. [Wikipedia]

Today saw a trip to Sandy to view the result of the decorating (and more) and it looks great.
This light fitting caught my eye. Normally something that throws patterns up on the ceiling would do my nut in, but in this small hallway it provides interest rather than distraction.
