I went to meet Frodo Alvarez, Children of Darklight when came to Madrid to do a laser graffiti at Puerta del Sol. He lent me some of his tools to do this photograph because I didn't have anything with me except for the camera and tripod.

I took delivery of a large sheet of Perspex today and a quick visit to homebase after work for some plumbing/light painting essentials.

I cut the Perspex into different shapes with a jigsaw and hot glue gunned them into a 22mm plastic pipe connector. This sits snugly into my light painting brushes adapter.

£1.75 strobing fleabay torch in the other end and camera on rotation tool. Span the first circle with the torch gelled light red before changing to yellow for the next two. Shot using a cwb which has turned the yellow into a rich bronze colour which I shall be using in the future.

Raw conversion in LR and jobs a good un.

I've wanted to do this since starting out in camera rotation. Have a subject rotate with the camera in front of the lens. It's a little rough round the edges but a step in the right direction.

The trouble is keeping the subject perfectly in sync with the rotation as even the slightest deviation will stick out like a sore thumb.

Rather than cobbling something together from kitchen utensils I will craft something which should remain stable.

Created using the L.P Brushes Unicorn blade and the Ryus Lightworks torch.

A simple one with orange, blue, red and green attached to the blades. Blue and pink gels on the irises of the connector. Masking tape on the surface of one blade. Liteblades for Light Painting Sony UK a7ii. ISO 160, f/14 for 2 seconds. Daylight WB. Klarus Flashlights RS11 torch on full power.

Light painting with Ebony Curnette modelling. Firetrails created with a Denis Smith made Arclight - Fireblade, connected via a Universal Connector, to a cool white Convoy S2+ flashlight. f/8, 34secs, ISO100. Bokeh created in studio, using a Helios 44-2 lens, Light Painting Brushes Black Fiber Optic Brush, connected via a Universal Connector to a warm white Convoy S2+. f/2, 1/200sec, ISO100. Images overlayed in-camera, and the resulting single RAW file post processed in Adobe Lightroom 6.

I've not been out light painting for a while so it was great to do a bit this evening. Traveled to Padley Gorge with Chris T and had a great time catching up and waving lights about. Shot this after Chris bagged what can only be described as a banger so the pressure was on to get something cool.

This is the culmination of a few failures where I took parts of the images I was happy with and combined them into 1 exposure.

Camera rotation of the black fibers gelled purple to start then cap on. I walked into frame and turned the big torch on gelled red and took up position. Chris kindly removed the cap and exposed for 10 seconds before re-capping and rotating 180 degrees. Repeated then cap on again. I took up position with a light blade which I waved up and down then right and left whilst Chris rotated the camera again for 720 degrees.

Great night in great company and cheers as ever for your input and assistance nailing something I'm pleased with. Top man.

A constant crt with a blade spin.

i used for this session a lot of flashlights from VARTA as always, like;

- 4 Watt LED High Optics Light 3C

- 3 Watt LED High Optics Light 2AA

- 3 Watt LED High Optics Light 3AAA

- INDUSTRIAL LANTERN 4D - this beautifful golden stripes

This was a test of a (largish) blade that I made for orb or globe making. At this point it was just attached to my torch with some pvc pipe and electrical tape.

This was my first time attempting a bladed orb and although I didn't get my movement right and there is room for improvement I'm happy with it. As my feet were in the one spot I used some EL wire to hide them. Practice, practice, practice so they say.

My torch which was a Klarus Fx10 has a two step strobe and although my moves have overlapped, it gives a nice geometric effect here. Looking forward to doing more once i sort out the attaching to my torch.

Bit of blown out background action tonight and for the main using a pcb to fill me in. I've done that before and nothing was doing it for me so switched to the technique I used the night before last in the Kiln.

Blew out the background first then Lauren kindly rotated the camera whilst I span the light blade.

After noticing the resemblance between Lego flame pieces, and the excellent Denis Smith made Arclight - Fireblade, I had an idea for a studio light painting scene. After rummaging through my kids lego, I created a Lego man that looked most like myself, holding a torch and said lightblade. The background was using a LPB Black Fiber Optic, connected via a LPB Universal Connector to a Ledlenser P7QC torch on high red mode. The Lego man was illuminated by a Thorfire TK15S on moonlight mode for 4secs. f/13, 5secs, ISO200. Manually focussed using the almost-vintage Nikon AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D lens. Post processed from RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6.

Tonight needed to be a quick and simple affair as I've got the mother of all colds.

If I'm well enough for work though I'm well enough for 365 photo projects.

Diy lightblade, Ryus modded torch, LP Brushes black fibers and a camera rotation tool.

Tried to bring a more organic feel to some blading work. This was from a practice set up to try and pin down my movements more than anything else. Looking forward to doing more in the next few weeks.

I found an old shot of Riley the other day from just after I got into camera rotation. Thought I'd give it another go so here we are.

Worked out the lighting for the scene first. 2 x Yongnuo 560iv on full power, one through a beauty dish high camera left and the other behind the chalkboard firing at the ceiling for fill gelled green/blue. Once happy with that I set about framing up the camera rotation element ensuring it fell on the black area of the chalkboard.

One rotation of the www.lightpaintingbrushes.com circular light blade for each 45 degree rotation of the camera.

Raw conversion in LR with minor tweaks and a crop.

Shot during a single long exposure in complete darkness.

Cheers to Rileyboy for his patience and cheeky smile skills. Top lad.

More tinkering with my dlw for beginners. It's not programmable in a custom fashion but there are plenty of stock patterns and sequences available. It's fun scrolling through to discover new wonders.

Added a touch of circular lightblade from www.lightpaintingbrushes.com and the divine Ryus Lightworks modded torch.

Jpeg straight out the snappy box.
