Experimenting with the bike flash mode on the Convoy S2+ flashlight with Biscotti firmware. LPB Plexiglass Diamond connected via LPB Universal Connector to a Convoy S2+ (on bike flash mode). Custom diamond lightblade connected to a Ledlenser P7QC (on blue low mode). Post processed from 5sec RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6, including hue adjustments.
It seems ages since I was last out doing any light painting ... kinda lost the interest in it for a while tbh ...
But I'm looking forward to getting back into it, so last week after work I headed out to see if I could brush off the cobwebs .. so to speak ;-)

Managed to grab a couple of shots the other night, at a new location after work with the girlfriend.
First of the quick session was this.
Smoke made with ElwireCraft's "Ultra" EL wire....just testing it out at the moment but its brilliant stuff,so bright !!
The Guardian's Super powers made with a home made "LIGHTBLADE".

Testing some prototype Lightblades with a colleague performing TKD traditional kama forms. Learned some things for a subsequent project.

Light Art Photography - only one long exposure, no Photoshop compositing.
Made with acrylic light blades and some torches.
This light-blading photo was inspired by some of the inspirational images I’ve seen from light-blading legends Patrick Rochon and Darren Hopkins, but with my own style of graceful sweeping curves. A custom diamond light blade and connector were used, with Convoy S2+ (on 30% power) as the light source. Magic tape on one side of the blade, pink cellophane on the opposite side, and blue cellophane along the coarsely sanded edges. Minimal post-processing from 6 sec RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6.

Lightblading legend - Patrick Rochon demonstrating a lightblading kata with his Liteblade KYO system at the excellent light painting meet-up in Brisbane’s New Farm Park. It was great to meet Patrick and see him demonstrating some of his lightblading moves. f/11, 8secs, ISO100. Post processed from RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6, including local adjustments to remove background artefact.

Post processed from 1.6sec RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6, including hue adjustment.
Lightblading using fluorescent sharpie ink the edge of a lightblade in conjunction with “forensic blue” light from a Ledlenser P7QC to make it glow. The light blade was a LPB 9in Plexiglass Rectangle, connected via LPB Universal Connector to the Ledlenser P7QC (on blue high mode for faster PWM and glow effect). f8, 5secs, ISO400. Post processed from RAW exposure in Adobe Lightroom 6.
i used to lighting 3 WATT L.E.D.HIGH OPTICS LIGHT 2AA from VARTA ! it is best good flashlight to my plexiglass tools !!

Even though there isn't really anything academic about this image, I still kinda like it. It has some abstract feeling with all its lines and dynamics. Funny shot, let's say...
I'm currently verging on falling of the 365 wagon. I'm missing the whole process and without having that impetus to shoot I have been sitting in front of the tv going slowly mental.
Thought I'd get the blades out tonight and the rainbow paper.
I rotated the blade on my crt powered by a drill. Lens cap on then placed a new sheet of rainbow in front of the lens lit with a torch. Lens cap off and panned the camera from left to right.
This is number 1 of my 365.

Experimenting with the Light Painting Brushes 9in Plexiglass Rectangle light-blade. The edge treatment is coarsely sanded, and 4 strips of magic tape have been placed across the blade to create the striped effect. The light source was a warm white Convoy S2+ on 10% power.
Post processed from RAW in Adobe Lightroom 6.

Thought I'd do some blade work tonight. This one is a flame shaped blade whose edge I embellished with different coloured felt tip pens.
I happened upon the rough form of a fish whilst faffing so I practiced the movements required to polish it. This was almost a full 360 degree continuous camera rotation whilst panning the camera at different rates back and fourth.
Shot with a sheet of organza wrapped around the lens to give a hint of ripple on the waters surface as the fish moves it's way through.
Given a crop and I knocked back highlights in Lightroom a little.

Ever since seeing Gareth Brookes swirly orb from here I've wanted to visit and on Day (night) 2 Phil and I visited Dolbadarn Castle.
Gareth was definitely in my thoughts this particular evening and probably shaking his head at my swirly orb technique. I couldn't nail a swirly one so I switched to my acrylic bubble rod, Convoy S2+ torch in strobe mode all linked together with the www.lightpaintingbrushes.com universal connector. I've not spun one of these for years so I was quite happy to see this staring back at me from the screen.
Minimal pp in lightroom to boost shadows and add clarity.

My first night in the wilds with my new camera and a visit to our fave spot up at Padley. Camera rotation, lightpainting brushes circle blade and a BLF super torch. Happy days.
Coreolis
I tried a few times to get the blade rotation to fall in the hole but failed. The more I look though I think this works better. More of a sense of movement and nearing the end.
First rotation was a full 360 of my mini DLW, lens cap on, change focus, uncap and rotated the blade once for every 9 turns of the crt handle.
Single long exposure light art with no cropping to achieve the off centre rotation :)
Today has been a good day. My prize from the Oviedo Light Painting competition arrived from Spain. A box full of fresh light blades, fiber optic brushes and a light writer. Happy days. Thanks very much to Herramientas Light Painting for the awesome box of goodies.
This one was shot using the wavy spike light blade, strobing torch attached to my camera rotation tool and drill. Full 360 using a purple gel and again with an orange one. Lens cap on and panned to the black fiber optic brush on the led lenser gelled blue for the bokeh.
Shot on the Samyang 50mm 1.4 manual lens. F16 for the blade and F1.4 for the bokeh.
A mention must surely go to Chris S and Jan L. How on earth you get such refined results from this type of shot is beyond me.
