Graffiti and light in Kijkduin!

In the dunes of Kijkduin (near The Hague) lightart is placed in the shape of bulbs that continiously change color. Everybody who knows this phenomenon knows the effect of this lightart in the dunes, they make it a unique and wonderful scenery. Descriptions like picturesque and magical were given by the audience. Even during the day, when the lights are off, the (white) bulbs make it a special scenery. Combined with the constantly changing colors in daylight during winter, you'll quickly think you are in a lunar landscape!

I saw this light art installation online and couldn't work out how big it was from the photos, so I thought it needed a sense of scale; waiting for these people in the shot to stand still during the 0.3 seconds' exposure with the colour changing lights hitting the right combination was tricky!

The blurb:

"This large light installation comes to the UK for the first time for Winter Lights at Canary Wharf. On entering OVO, visitors are surrounded by light and soundscapes. Its dynamic form is a combination of 24 crossed spiral pairs based on the Golden Proportion that is present everywhere in the universe, from infinitely small in the DNA helix to infinitely large in the cyclical movement of planets and galaxies. Four artists created OVO: Mostafa Hadi and Pol Marchandise (Odeaubois) designed the sculpture; Koert Vermeulen (ACT Lighting Design) conceived the lighting design and Marcos Viñals Bassols (Art Director) shaped the global scenography."

Just back from an amazing couple of days away with Phill F, Paul from LACE and Darren H in the Peak District, for some lp and landscape action.

This is one from last night and a mission to Lud's Church with the LACE backlight scanner.

I have visited here before but never at night and it was magical. This section is at the top and I mooched off on my tod to bag this one.

Fired the shutter then walked towards the camera scanning the area with lovely light.

Cheers chaps for a top time and can't wait for the next one.

A quick jaunt to my fave tunnel tonight with Rich as I haven't been out waving lights for quite a while.

A bit of net curtain, some gelled flash a couple of pans and some gelled torch.

A great evening as ever in top company.

I had the honor to be asked to write an article about my light painting journey so far in the second edition of Lightart Digital Magazine recently. The magazine can be downloaded here www.lightartdm.com and is full of lots of awesome articles from around the globe.

For taking part I was sent this funky T-Shirt so decided to use it as a basis for tonight's shot.

I had recently seen someone burn steel wool contained in a glass which looked very cool. Then the idea struck as I had bought a massive pack of steel wool today that it would look cool to be eating a bowl of it.

Worked out the lighting first.

1 x Yongnuo 560iv through socked and gridded softbox camera left on 1/8th power @24mm.

1 x Yongnuo 560iv gelled orange camera right behind me shining down the wall gelled orange. 1/16th @50mm.

Lit the steel wool on the spoon which dripped onto the bowlful below, fired the shutter which in turn fired the flashes. Let the wool trails burn in for a few seconds and ended the exposure.

Very minor crop and contrast in Lightroom.

I did a few rotations using my tripod set up in a different way this evening.

I started off doing macro to wide angle lens swaps and took a few extras before taking down all the gear. This is one of the throw-aways which I ended up liking the most.
