Just a few more snaps before I actually deiced to move south to Alma Nebraska.

This storm to my southwest was still a slow mover but it was amp'n up with warning now issued on this cell. So I eventually deiced to stay to the north of this due to all the light.

Beautiful Mammatus clouds forming on the northwest side of this storm, right over the Nebraska Kansas border. Mother Nature was giving some good eye candy!

Sugarcane or Sugar cane (Saccharum) is a genus of between 6 and 37 species (depending on taxonomic interpretation) of tall grasses (family Poaceae, tribe Andropogoneae), native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Old World. They have stout, jointed fibrous stalks 2 m – 6 m tall and sap rich in sugar. All the species interbreed, and the major commercial cultivars are complex hybrids.

About 107 countries grow the crop to produce 1,324 million tonnes (more than 6 times the amount of sugar beet produced). The largest producers are Brazil, India, China, and Pakistan, accounting for more than 50% of world production.

Sugar Cane is a type of grass originally from southeast Asia. The thick stalk stores energy as sucrose in the sap. From this juice sugar is extracted by evaporating the water. Crystalized sugar was reported 2500 years ago in India. Around the eighth century A.D. the Arabs introduced sugar to the Mediterranean and it was cultivated in Spain. It was among the early crops brought to the Americas by Spaniards.

Sugar cane was grown extensively in the Caribbean and still is on some islands. In colonial times sugar was a major product of the triangular trade of New World raw materials, European manufactures and African slaves. France found its sugar cane islands so valuable it effectively traded Canada to Britain for their return of Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Lucia at the end of the Seven Years' War. The Dutch similarly kept Suriname, a sugar colony in South America, instead of seeking the return of the New Netherlands (New Amsterdam). Cuban sugar cane produced sugar which received price supports from and a guaranteed market in the USSR; the dissolution of that country forced the closure of most of Cuba's sugar industry. Sugar cane is still an important part of the economy in Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Grenada, and other islands. The sugar cane industry is a major export for the Caribbean, but it is expected to collapse with the removal of European preferences by 2009.

Sugar cane production also greatly influenced the modern history of many tropical Pacific islands, most particularly Hawaii and Fiji. In these islands, sugar came to dominate the economic and political landscape after the indigenous societies were invaded by Europeans and Americans. The Europeans and Americans also promoted immigration from various Asian countries for workers to tend and harvest the crop. Sugar-industry policies eventually established the ethnic makeup of the island populations that now exist, profoundly affecting modern politics and society in the islands.

Brazil is a major grower of sugar cane, where it is used to produce sugar as well as to provide the alcohol used in making gasohol and biodiesel fuels.

My first South Korean plate of the year, and my second ever! I really didn't expect such a plate in this semi-lockdown period!

Brad's flying his powered paraglider over Black Rock City at sunset.

Not sure if this flight was very "legal", since the air-space above Black Rock City was very regulated this year (drones not allowed to fly without a permit). But we saw several BLM and Sheriff cars drive by, and none of the officers cared about Brad and his powered paraglider taking off from the playa!

I had planned on shooting from the end of the park, but it closed at 8. So I crossed the beach and went around a railing to get up on the barrier wall of the park. This was better than I was expecting and exactly what I wanted with the foreground. I framed the shot to minimize distortion shooting this lens at 16mm, and I was able to get the buildings nice and straight by leveling the camera parallel to the buildings. This image has no post process distortion correction. The waters of the lake are clear and I got some nice transparency to the water. It was beautiful to watch the light fade over the city from this angle.

This not-Ferrari Ferrari was one of my favroite spots in Lugano. The Dino was a Ferrari sub-marque named after Enzo's son, Alfredo "Dino". They feature V6s instead of V8s which made them "less-Ferrariish" back then, but nowadays they are certainly one of the more beloved ones due to their looks. They look truly beautiful and they deserve the Ferrari name. This particular one had an amazing license plate, six sixes - and from Modena, above all.

I lied.

I said in my last post I was going to start sharing photos from my Southeast Asia journey I embarked on last year.

Lying maybe too strong of a word. Let’s just say I embellished the truth.

Here is a blue hour photograph from my trek to Mexico last year after I came back from Southeast Asia. This will be my last photograph (I promise) and from now on I’ll be updating you guys with photos from my Southeast Asia trip.

If colonial architecture and cobblestone streets sound very appealing then the beautiful Spanish colonial town of San Miguel de Allende fits the bill to be your home away from home (many Americans do). San Miguel de Allende has one of the largest American communities in Mexico with over 7,000 residents. It is large enough to warrant its own U.S. consulate.

The ‘wedding cake’ towers of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel dominates the perfectly manicured main plaza, El Jardin, in the old historic center. I spent many evenings sitting on a bench in the plaza admiring the gorgeous architecture and striking light, all the while consuming my favorite Mexican meal Tacos Al Pastor!

Happy Travels!
