Summer 2017 - Lower Manhattan - New York

Here's another view of that 1965 Ford Styleside pickup that was parked at our local grocery store.

The F-250 was rated at 3/4 ton. Model year 1965 was the first with Ford’s ‘Twin-I-Beam’ front suspension on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive trucks

An emblem for a V-8 engine appears on the hood.

The license plate has been altered for privacy.

Soft early-morning light on rugged and colorful badlands formations.

On the final full day of our early-April 2019 photography visit to Death Valley we decided to head for a familiar location where I enjoy photographing in the morning. After being closed earlier in the season this area had finally reopened — flooding of washes in the area had interfered with access, and repairs had be recently completed.

The photographic opportunities in this area — and, to be honest, in many places — depend a lot on the specific qualities of the light during a visit. I've been here where clouds turned everything gray and when intense light made some portions of this landscape a bit too stark for my preferences. This morning was close to ideal. When we arrived, before dawn, there was a high overcast and the light was not all that spectacular. However, the clouds were thin, and as the sun rose the light made it thought the dissipating clouds — and this sort of high, thing clouds provide some of the most subtle and beautiful light.

Beautiful flowers in Laragh, Ireland

I passed by Richmond Country Farm in the weekend and I went to see the pumpkins at the shop front. I know I need to polish my focusing technique and this is the basics of photography.

When you have your works shown in Tate Modern and your picture is out-focused, the viewers will think the artist is using some creative techniques may be. This is called the Artist's License. When someone like me who does not have the license yet, you need to learn the basics again! :o)

I love photographing layered and torn posters, but sometimes posters torn off a wall are equally interesting. Shot this in an alley in SF Chinatown, Canon SureShot Max + Kodak Tri-X 400 Film.

I saw this plate a while ago and snapped a shot of it! It seemed like an unusual vanity plate.

I got this same shot on two different days last week. The results from my first trip were pretty cool and I got some good results, but I wasn't really that happy with the sky and my focal length was too long. The wind was also gusting so hard I couldn't push my exposure out as long as I wanted. So I scrapped the session, and waited for a day with better clouds to get it right. That day came pretty quick, but the conditions looked to become fleeting. Luckily I was able to get through nightmare traffic and catch a fresh batch of clouds at the crux. In a rush, this was my first exposure that I let rip without calculating the exposure length.

A robin red-breast, submitted to Scarlet Sunday for your consideration. Plenty more of him down there in the comments.

I realise there is an absence of red in the actual photo despite the red in the name but I put this by the one admin of the group still alive on flickr and he approved. It was a tough conversation and I had to use all my wits and logic to persuade him:

harold.lloyd: is this acceptable for Scarlet Sunday?

harold.lloyd: yes.

View from northeast of the Grade 1 listed St Mary de Haura, founded circa 1103 with much C12 structure remaining. Of Norman and Transitional style using stone, flint, and cobbles. The flying buttresses to the clerestorey are early examples of this structural technique. The funds for the building may have been sourced from the harbour taxes of that era.
