The Nieuport 17, of which this is a replica, was an extremely successful French WW1 a fighter aircraft. More than 3,500 were constructed and saw service with several allied air arms, including the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service. Numerous British Empire pilots became aces fling the type. This example has a top mounted machine gun, but other models had 'interrupter gear' fitted which allowed a gun fitted on the fuselage to fire through the propeller arc without destroying the propeller - a good trick if you can do it!
In this photo, the face painted on the side of the plane has been enlarged for artistic effect .

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and forty seven metres at 15:40pm on Thursday 8th November 2018, off Þingvallavegur 36 in the Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir National Park) in Iceland. Situated East of Reykjavik, this is the location where the Alþing (Althing) parliamentary general assembly met between 930 CE and 1798. It has been home to a church for over One thousand years.
The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates with cliffs and fissures such as the Almannagjá fault.
Here we are looking over a body of water known as Þingvallavatn (Þingvallavatn lake). The lake has a surface area of 84 km² and a depth of 114m and lies partially with the national park.The only outflow from lake Þingvallavatn is the river Sog.

i had a couple of other ideas for the theme this week, but tonight as my kids and i headed out to the eyes to the sky festival, i saw this license plate at a local 7-11 and the other ideas just went away. i wasn't going to go cliché, but, our freedom is because of them, and i'm so proud to be an american.

~Artistic License?~ I have been to this location numerous times chasing the light and atmosphere. I’ve been skunked every time!😡 So imagine how excited I was when a few days ago, weather apps predicted a great sunrise for the area!
Up at 5:30am, Timmies coffee, and off I went.
I arrived in the dark, parked the car, and hiked down to the river making my way up to a bend. There I found a small pool of water that would reflect the peak of Mt. Kidd. I set up my composition and waited for that great morning light....... and waited....... and waited. I waited in that spot for over an hour. Nothing! Skunked again!
When I got home, out of sheer frustration, I planned to save my image. I introduced a new sky and, unapologetically, I’m glad I did!
Many images on social media do not represent what was actually seen by the photographer, in fact many are complete fantasy. But this is what was in my head the whole time driving to location. I would not be denied😂
I rarely do composites, as I want to show the beauty of nature as it happens. But if I do, I feel I have to let the viewer know.
This may not accurately represent what I saw that morning but rest assured, it was what I had envisioned and hoped to capture.
I will go back and see that scene unfold before me naturally some day. I’ll keep you posted 😊.
