The novelty 'AREA 51' license plates may be great souvenirs for your Nevada road trip, but for Chris Sandoval of Reno NV they are a bit of a nightmare. It turns out Chris purchased the real 'AREA 51' vanity plate a few years back and during that time bad drivers have been using the souvenir plates to rack up a wide variety of crimes including evading toll booths, speed cameras, red light cams and parking violations. He's received 350 violations, including an arrest warrant for a hit-and-run committed by someone with the fake plates.

This is a modified version of the panorama below. I gave it a healthy dose with the levels and curves and then compressed it horiontally to give it a little taller perspecitve and a little extra gothic feel. (The distortion also happens to make it exactly the size of my screen...)

So what’s so special about this picture you might think?
It’s the license plate.
1927: A design configuration appeared on Illinois license plates for the first time. On the right side of the plate is a black outline of Illinois with the letters ILL and the numbers 27 inside. C.H. Hanson Co. of Chicago manufactured the license plates. (No, not the inmates of some State prison).
This is the first……….and the last time that the embossed outline of the State (Illinois) appeared on an Illinois license plate. In other words, the only time that an embossed outline of the State of Illinois appeared on the license palate was in 1927.
You might also note that being Illinois and being Cook County and being Chicago, it's only natural that even back in 1927 car owner's were required to pay a vehicle tax in order to own and operate a motor vehicle within the city of Chicago.

On an early Easter Monday bank holiday morning, I set off towards Bradgate Park under a biting wind, with my car showing just 4°C. Despite the cold, the land was clearly awakening with spring, quietly signaling renewal in every detail.
As I stepped into the park under the soft morning light, there was a rare stillness—no people, just nature beginning its day. Instead of the usual robin, I was greeted by a Eurasian chaffinch foraging on the ground. Around me, small birds were busily flying back and forth, carrying nesting materials in their beaks into tree hollows.
Continuing my walk, I noticed a group of fallow deer on my right. Among them, a young deer fixed its curious gaze on me, and I believe I captured that exact moment of connection in a single frame. Between us flowed the River Lin, its subtle elevation difference and fresh greenery adding depth to the scene.
As I observed the group, something remarkable caught my attention in the distance. Eurasian jackdaw were landing on the deer, pulling out loose fur and flying off to line their nests in ancient tree hollows. This interaction seemed less about parasite removal and more about building soft nesting material.
I waited patiently as the light shifted and the sun rose higher, creating a beautiful backlit background. Finally, the moment came—a female deer allowing a jackdaw to pull fur from her back. I captured this frame at ISO 4000 and 1/1250 sec.
It’s also worth noting that the deer are currently shedding their winter coats, which the jackdaws are clearly taking advantage of. Interestingly, not all deer tolerated this behavior—some females resisted, perhaps due to discomfort.
Nature’s balance and these subtle interactions continue to fascinate me, often leading me to reflect more deeply on the connections within the wild.
I hope this story adds another layer to the image and helps convey the moment beyond the frame.
Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful Easter Monday.
I've captured some unforgettable moments with my camera, and I hope you feel the same joy viewing these images as I did while shooting them.

The ptarmigan, In summer, is a mixture of grey, brown and black above with white bellies and wings. In winter, it becomes totally white except for its tail and eye-patch, which remain black. It breeds in the highest mountains of the Highlands of Scotland.

Just a few more snaps before I actually deiced to move south to Alma Nebraska.
This storm to my southwest was still a slow mover but it was amp'n up with warning now issued on this cell. So I eventually deiced to stay to the north of this due to all the light.
Beautiful Mammatus clouds forming on the northwest side of this storm, right over the Nebraska Kansas border. Mother Nature was giving some good eye candy!

I was driving home the other day earlier than usual and as I approached Boston the clouds coming over the city looked incredible. After raining all day there was brief break in the clouds, so I decided to race down to Carlton's Wharf chasing the last bit of light before the clouds once again took over the sun. I hit every light green on the way into East Boston and got there in record time. I was in and out in 15 mins before the heavy rain.
The lighting was brutal and I used an umbrella to shade the camera, luckily I was able to barely shade the filter stack without getting the umbrella in the frame. After a quick shot with only a grad ND I realized I needed a polarizer for the water, so I took all the filters out and used only the polarizer to figure out what 90 deg angle would kill the reflection on the water. I then reloaded all filters and dialed in the grad ND through live view. By using the square polarizer in this way, I'm able to carry only one filter holder with three slots, and I can shoot any combination of three filters without any damaging vignetting at 16mm. I typically use these combinations: ND and square CPL that I can spin to any angle, ND filter and CPL at right angle with grad ND on top, or ND with two grad ND's on top.
