Capoeira (/ˌkæpuːˈɛərə/; Portuguese pronunciation: [kapuˈejɾɐ]) is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music, and is sometimes referred to as a game. It was developed in Brazil mainly by African descendants with native Brazilian influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known for quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for a wide variety of kicks, spins, and highly mobile techniques.
The most widely accepted origin of the word capoeira comes from the Tupi words ka'a ("jungle") e pûer ("it was"), referring to the areas of low vegetation in the Brazilian interior where fugitive slaves would hide.
On 26 November 2014 Capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage" by UNESCO.

USAID's All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development announced (on International Literacy Day) today that our project is one of the 32 winners who will each receive a grant of up to $300,000! Here's the official language released today from our entry in the event program guide (p. 21):
Innovations: Teaching & Learning Materials
Lubuto Library Project, Inc.
Innovation: LubutoLiteracy: Zambian Teaching and Learning Materials for the Digital Age
Innovator: Lubuto Library Project, Inc. (LLP)
Location Applied: Zambia: Lusaka and rural regions of Zambia
Potential Impact: 47,000 children
LubutoLiteracy: Zambian Teaching and learning is a pioneering program creating high-quality mother-tongue materials to teach children to read on an accessible, low-cost digital platform, and sustainably deploying them at national scale in Zambia in partnership with government and other stakeholders. The interactive materials are developed locally by teachers and youth in line with the national curriculum and leverage the open access learning environment and outreach of Lubuto Libraries to particularly benefit highly vulnerable and out-of-school children. LubutoLiteracy provides open access to interactive computer-based lessons in Zambia's seven major languages that adapt the printed curriculum to incorporate more familiar vocabulary. A significant factor favoring the success of the proposed project is that it builds on the lessons of LLP's unique pilot program in its two libraries in Lusaka.
The materials are developed on open source software that can run on any computer platform, and they are ultimately envisioned to be accessible on other devices such as e-readers and mobile phones. This concept reaches the most disadvantaged children and communities, many of whom have limited access to electricity and the internet and typically do not benefit from "technology" projects. One Laptop per Child (OLPC) laptops are well-suited to this effort as they are designed to be durable and energy-efficient, while the lessons themselves will be made freely available for download or on CD-ROM.
INSPIRATION
After OLPC laptops were successfully introduced in Lusaka libraries in 2009, the idea of LuubutoLiteracy emerged, says Stacy Langner. "Laptops were quickly learned and used with ease by children including those who spoke limited English, deaf children or children with other physical disabilities. Our long knowledge of the educational/information needs of Zambia's vulnerable youth who, along with all Zambian youth, are served by our libraries and our partnerships in the education sector in Zambia provided further direction and inspiration"

I decided to leverage off my visit to the Arc Hotel and speak to another member of the photo shoot team.
Meet Katherine the Floral Designer at the event. She walked past me with an armful of flowers and said hello and promised she would be back to chat.
A native of Newport the third largest city in Wales U.K. Newport is located in South Wales, as kids we would vacation in North Wales as it was in reasonable driving distance from our home in Liverpool, fond memories indeed.
Katherine actually followed her parents to Canada, as she was reluctant to move to the Great White North, that, as they say is water under the bridge now. She has made a life here in Ottawa with her husband and nine month old baby.
Always an artistic individual but pragmatic nonetheless, she loved Arts & Crafts but decided that her career choices may be limited, so she graduated from Ottawa's Carleton University with a degree in Biology.
A career in Commercial Real Estate didn't pan out. Meanwhile Katherine took a part-time position at Bloomfield's Florist in Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood and her creative juices started to flow.
About a year ago she started her own Floral Studio - Pollen Nation
She runs her business out of her studio rather than a traditional retail storefront, this helps with operating costs but also invokes a much more creative environment for her and her clients. The emphasis is on Weddings, Celebratory Events and Corporate Services, however if you need to make things up with your significant other, Katherine can help you out.
She will also come to your home to provide a private workshop to teach you how to create the perfect floral masterpiece. This is a great idea for a social gathering with your friends.
Katherine has a wonderful outgoing personality, perfect for the floral business, she makes full use of Social Media to promote her business. Pollen Nation has worked with a number of high profile corporate clients including, Starbucks, Lululemon, Lux Event Rentals etc. they also do photo shoots such as todays' event to further her creative spirit.
Thank you Katherine it was wonderful to make your acquaintance, I wish you all the very best for the future.
NOTE: I had emailed the photographs to Katherine, she was extremely gracious in her response. Thank you for that Katherine.
