Two evenings ago I was getting ready to run out for the moonrise, when I remembered... I don't have a tripod! I broke a leg on my 12-year old tripod recently, trying to leverage myself out of deep snow; a new one has shipped but it hasn't arrived yet.
I could boost the ISO and apply noise reduction - and live with the loss in quality. Or... I could get out the trusty old beanbag! I opted for the latter, laying it flat on the roof of the rolling red Toyota blind - engine off - and for this shoot I also resurrected the 200-500mm lens. It may not be quite as sharp as my 500 prime, but I love the versatility of that zoom range, and really the optics are fine. And the combination was fine, too, as I managed to salvage the evening.
Here the moon has risen above 70 Mile Butte, highest point in Grasslands Park. Those tiny knobby things you may see all along the ridge top are Mule Deer.

Leveraged a version that I did a few years back, with a bit of a twist. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and Happy Easter. Happy Easter Slider Sunday - HESS!
An invitation Gav and myself could not refuse was to visit the inside of Par box. We spent 30 mins in excellent company and were thoroughly educated in the workings of this fine building.
The Leveraged Freedom Chair is a chair propelled by hand levers that's in development at MIT. It's compact, has adjustable speeds and a K-Mart price tag.
The prototype above handles both bad roads and cramped offices. The full story is here:
An Amtrak Lincoln Service train heads west/south at Brighton Park Crossing in Chicago, passing the levers that controlled the famous semaphores at this junction until 2008.

One of the levers from the historic Mills Interlocking Tower in Iowa Falls, Iowa. This tower was replaced with a automated system in 1993 and was bought and left in place by the Iowa Falls, Iowa Historic Society. Thanks to Larry Stirler and Dave Kroger for inviting me out there for the open house last weekend.
Carlos totally lost it. He plans to use us as leverage to get out of Hex.
He even killed Diva when she got in his way.
I don't know if he knew she was a robot. Or whether it would have mattered if she was not.
We are now on our way to the core. Carlos thinks he has found a way out ...
Down the elevator ... through the nest ... with us as bait ...
First "final" version, started last summer. The next one will leverage newly released parts to fix many shaping issues.
Huge thanks to many kind folks who gave me expert feedback on this model and the next.
Biggest thanks goes to Waffles, for many patient hours of feedback and teaching.
Making this was a lot of fun, and the biggest challenge I've ever faced.
this series/album "wall position" , several pieces of my wall art gallery are shown, yet, with a software twist.

Leverage
makes the world go 'round.
It is the grease in the markets.
It is the strength to impose your will.
Freedom's trajectory
spans the planet,
whether all want it or not.
The arc or heaven rests
on American commerce.

As part of the Heritage Open Days weekend the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership arranges for Haltwhistle station and signal box to be opened to the public. With guided tours of the site the event seemed to be attracting quite a few visitors to the historic station.
The 1901 built signal box is no longer used to control traffic on the line but the levers remain in place in what was, at it's peak, an 85 lever frame, controlling the junction between the Tyne Valley line and the Alston branch.
Longshan Temple (龍山寺) is the largest scale of temple in Lukang, and it’s also the most well-preserved Fujianese style building of the Qing Dynasty in Taiwan. Due to its architecture and historical value, Lukang Longshan Temple is ranked as first class historical site in Taiwan.
Most of the structures in Lukang Longshan Temple were completed in Qing Dynasty in 1831. The most amazing one is Bagua caisson ceiling (八卦藻井) above outdoor stage. This wood structure was precisely calculated. Craftsmen used leverage to sustain the whole ceiling without a single nail. Besides producing better sound effect, caisson ceiling has a function to suppress evils and bring peace to the town. Pillars, gates, and walls made by stone are elaborate, especially dragon pillars in the front hall.
The resident deity at Lukang Longshan Temple is Guanyin (觀音)*, and it’s the same in every Longshan Temples all over Taiwan. In back worship hall, shrines of Dragon King** and Wind God can be found. In every Dragon Festival, Dragon King is invited to bless favorable weather and good harvest.
With lots of effort from specialists, Lukang Longshan Temple was able to be restored from ruins in 10 years after 921 Earthquake. They tried their best to keep it as original.
