On Chef in the Classroom Day, 67 chefs fanned out across the city, bringing cooking demonstrations, veggie tastings and healthy eating lessons to Chicago school children. Chef in the Classroom Day was part of Chicago's response to First Lady Michelle
Obama’s Chefs Move to Schools initiative and was coordinated by Healthy Schools Campaign and Chicago Public Schools as part of the Go for the Gold partnership supporting schools in their efforts to meet the high standards for nutrition education, physical activity and food set by the HealthierUS School Challenge, the program the first lady is challenging schools to meet. After spending time in the classroom, chefs connected with principals to talk about ways to stay involved and support the schools' healthy eating and food education efforts.
