Very good. A tiny bit over spicy, but our own fault since we were out of mild chili powder and I had to use cayenne. Prepared through Step 3 the night before; very quick and easy.
Dinner a few nights ago -- tofu squares coated with sesame seeds, pepper, and parmesan cheese and then pan fried. In the back there are lentils braised in red wine and vegetable broth -- I combined a cup of brown lentils with one-and-a-half cups broth and a half-cup of wine, added some sauteed onions, peppers and (lots of) garlic, and seasoned the whole mess with smoked paprika and dried red pepper. Very tasty.
20 Kilometri fuori Addis Abeba al tramonto ancora si lavora per riempire i sacchi di lenticchie che verranno portati in città . Ai bambini delle case circostanti piace venire e giocare imitando i lavoratori con i residui degli scarti della lavorazione.
Red Lentils | Masoor Dal, Dal is a staple lentil-based dish in both Pakistani and Indian cuisine. This particular recipe highlights red lentils, known for their quick cooking time and smooth texture, infused with warm, earthy flavors of turmeric, cumin, and chili peppers. If red lentils are not available, other types like toor dal (split pigeon peas) or chana dal (split yellow peas) can be used as substitutes. Dal is typically served with rice or flatbreads and is often complemented by a variety of side dishes, such as sautéed vegetables, pickles, and yogurt. (USDA, FNS photo)

Recipe used: Hearty Lentil Soup (224)
While we had no Mad Men to watch (I mistakenly thought I could get season four on Hulu), Heather, Laurel and I enjoyed this simple and delicious soup, which I paired with some biscuits. The mustard and vinegar added at the end were wonderful, delicious touches.
Recipe:
1 c. lentils
3-4 c. water or broth of your choice
1/2 c. chopped onions
1/2 c. chopped fennel
2-3 cloves chopped garlic
2-3 Tbsp olive oil
handful cilantro
salt/pepper to taste
Bring lentils to a boil in the water/broth. Simmer for half an hour while you saute onions, fennel and garlic in olive oil. Don't let them brown. When onions and fennel are translucent, add to lentils. Add salt and pepper, and water if necessary. When the lentils are soft, add cilantro and serve immediately. YUM!
