Italian lentil soup from City Lights Espresso, Santa Clara, CA

www.facebook.com/CityLightsEspresso

My lentil sprouts are moving along slowly, but nicely. I can see a

tail on most of the lentils at this point and it grew significantly

between this morning and evening. I've left them in a east facing

window which gets soft morning light, but nothing direct past 10AM. I

had expect them to be further along by day #3. The strawberry

containers seem to work OK. A few lentils have managed to sneak out

during rinsing.

I'm in grace's kitchen this week! These are the ingredients I used for the soup.

Main course

Lebanese Lentil Salad on a bed of Organic Spinach, Spicy Mixed Bean Hummus and Home Made Whole Wheat Soft Lavash (Vegan)

Side

Star Fruit atop a Whole Wheat Organic Chocolate Brownie

Dozen Mezzes,Babaganouj, Walnut & Goat Cheese Mezze with Rolled Pumkin Pie

This is the first of my newest design, the Haoredux Shrug. It is a ruffly cropped jacket, with boxy haori-like sleeves that are elbow length, and of course, also ruffly. It's open in front but could be pinned shut with a brooch. It can be dressed up or down and like most of my clothes, is highly conducive to creative layering. I'll be making them from many different fabrics. enjoy!

Rather a challenging one, this - marinating the chicken in advance, some exciting herbs (star anise, whole cardamom), and pushing me out of my comfort zone with pan frying chicken (how do you know when it is done? I always worry that it isn't cooked properly, much easier when it's shoved in the oven). Nice dish though, the chicken was seriously tasty and both children wolfed it down. Megan liked the lentils, Eli wasn't so keen despite loving them in other things.

These are decorticated (the hull has been removed) and cook up quickly.

Bannock bread is a traditional bread here in Canada, very easy and quick to do as it does not need to raise. Perfect for people who like camping outside !

Goes very well with a rustic-ish lentil stew.

this lentil pie is really tasty

This is a gluten free, vegan loaf made from red lentils, rice, ground walnuts and flaxseeds, onions, garlic and lots of herbs from the garden - thyme, oregano, marjoram and parsley - served with a green salad and Korean red pepper sauce.
