I love lentils in soups, salads, curries... all kinds of formats. Lentil chili wasn't bad, but didn't feel like the best possible use of the legume.

Église Saint-Laurent

 

L’ancienne église de Lentilly fut remplacée en 1858 et démolie en 1890. La construction d’une nouvelle église fut décidée, car l’ancienne avait subie de graves dommages suite à une tempête.

 

Celle-ci était modeste : une seule nef avec deux petites chapelles formant transept, celle de la Sainte Vierge côté nord, et celle de Saint-Denis côté sud.

 

La montée du clocher avait son entrée dans le cimetière. Son orientation était est / ouest. Il ne subsiste que des traces de la chapelle de la Vierge et les fonts baptismaux.

 

L’église actuelle est d’un style « bâtard » tirant sur le roman.

 

Son orientation est sud-est / nord-ouest. Le clocher se termine par une flèche élancée, bien qu’à l’origine celle-ci n’avait pas été prévue. La construction a été réalisée par l’entreprise Ringuet de Civrieux d’Azergues, selon les plans de M. Benoit, architecte à Lyon.

 

Le devis estimatif de la construction s’élevait à 57.677,40 F.

 

Le clocher comporte trois cloches :

 

- 1822 (Chevalier et Burdin fils Ainé)

- 1822 (Chevalier et Burdin fils Ainé)

- 1882 (Burdin Ainé fondeur à Lyon)

 

Des travaux de restauration du clocher ont été réalisés en 1984, puis en 1994 travaux de restauration intérieure avec création d’un espace sacré dans l’esprit du Concile Vatican II, mise en valeur de l’édifice.

 

Les abords de l’église ont été par la suite réhabilité par la création d’un espace public dans une partie du jardin du presbytère.

 

Eléments remarquables à voir : bas-relief saint Laurent de l’autel, statue de la Vierge dans le sas d’entrée.

1 onion, chopped.

2 garlic clove, chopped.

50 m"l oil.

vegetable stock.

 

*Cover lentils with cold water and leave for the night.

 

Heat oil .Fry onion till gold.add garlic and lentils. cover with cold water. Add peper, salt and vegetable stock. Boil and cook till soft.

 

Add 3 cups boiling water. Heat until simmering. add the rise. cover and cook for 20 minutes over low heat.Remove from the heat and leave to cool without taking of the lid.

One of my favourite foods at the moment. Delicious with mango chutney or cranberry sauce!

Fast becoming my favourite pasta dish - a cheesy mustard "bolognese" type feel pasta dish that's vegetarian! Give it a go - you won't be disappointed!

Our lunch today in Tsilivi.

Lids are off so they can naturally cool down before I put them in the freezer.

This is the package that is destined for the slow cooker to turn into lentil soup. It contains onions, garlic, thyme, tomato paste, olive oil, bay leaf, carrot, beluga lentil, and cremini mushrooms. Just empty into slow cooker and add water.

 

I'm so enamoured by my vacuum sealer.

I thought I was crazy, but it turns out I was just on to something amazingly delicious. And yes, these really are vegetarian.

Practicing with my Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens on some lentils. The camera was mounted on a tripod and I used manual focus. I lit the lentils with a Canon 580EXII in a Lumiquest Softbox III. Not sure whether these are red or pink lentils (I know they look orange to me too).

April 17th... It was so hard to choose the photo today because I had a lot of good food! My mom, Grace, and I went to a Mediterranean place in Richardson called Afrah. Lots of deliciousness there. But this lentil soup was money. More photos from this meal to follow.

A rice and lentil dish topped with fried onions that can be found throughout the Middle East. It's so simple...but so comforting. I first read about the dish in Diana Abu-Jaber's The Language of Baklava while on holiday. She includes a recipe too and this is the one I used. You might want to soak the lentils longer than she suggests though.

 

Oh, and the book is wonderful!
