นักวิจัยฮาร์วาร์ดและเอมโมรีพัฒนา Machine Learning ใช้อัลกอริทึมสามารถทำนายความเสี่ยงของการเกิดอาการวิกลจริตในอนาคตได้ แม่นยำถึง 93% จากการวิเคราะห์ความหมายแฝงในเนื้อหาของคำพูดที่ปรากฏซ้ำ ๆ
ในอดีตการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีปัญญาประดิษฐ์ หรือ AI ถือเป็นการค้นพบใหม่ เมื่อนวัตกรรมปัญญาประดิษฐ์ได้เข้ามาสร้างความเปลี่ยนแปลงให้กับหลาย ๆ สิ่งที่มีอยู่บนโลก วงการจิตเวชศาสตร์เองก็ได้รับประโยชน์ไปด้วย
ปัจจุบันโรคจิตหรือวิกลจริต เป็นหนึ่งในโรคทางจิตเวทที่ทำให้บุคคลมีการรับรู้ที่ผิดปกติไปอย่างมาก แม้ว่าจะพบไม่มากในประเทศไทย แต่ก็ถือเป็นปัญหาสำคัญในด้านจิตเวชและสาธารณสุข ซึ่งอาการของโรคนี้ ได้แก่ หลงผิดไปจากความเป็นจริง ประสาทหลอน หูแว่ว เห็นภาพหรือรับรู้ในสิ่งที่ไม่มีอยู่จริง
ปัจจุบันยังไม่มีทางรักษาโรคจิตเภทให้หายขาดได้ อย่างไรก็ตามหากมีการตรวจพบโรคนี้ได้ตั้งแต่ระยะเริ่มต้น ก็จะสามารถชะลอการเสื่อมประสิทธิภาพของการรับรู้ของบุคคลได้ การศึกษาโรควิกลจริตในปัจจุบันได้พัฒนาไปไกลมากขึ้น มีการนำปัญญาประดิษฐ์เข้ามาช่วยให้บุคลากรทางสุขภาพจิตศึกษาพฤติกรรมมนุษย์ได้อย่างละเอียดลุ่มลึกขึ้นได้
เมื่อเดือนมิถุนายนที่ผ่านมา npj Schizophrenia ได้ตีพิมพ์บทความเกี่ยวกับการใช้ปัญญาประดิษฐ์ในการศึกษาโรควิกลจริต โดยวารสารนี้เป็นวารสารวิชาการระดับนานาชาติที่มีเป้าหมายในการตีพิมพ์บทความคุณภาพสูงและบทวิจารณ์บทความที่เกี่ยวข้องกับโรคจิตเภทและโรคจิตทุกแง่มุม รวมถึงโรคความผิดปกติของอารมณ์ สภาวะทางจิตที่มีความเสี่ยง และอาการทับซ้อนระหว่างโรคจิตและโรคอื่น ๆ วารสารนี้ยังเป็นฐานข้อมูลการเข้าถึงแบบเปิด Open access (OA)ให้นักวิจัยจากทุกมุมโลกสามารถเข้าถึงข้อมูลได้อย่างไม่เสียค่าใช้จ่าย
โดยวารสาร npj Schizophrenia ได้ตีพิมพ์บทความ[1]ของ Neguine Rezaii จากมหาวิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด (Harvard University)และ Elaine Walker และ Phillip Wolff นักวิทยาศาสตร์จากมหาวิทยาลัยเอมโมรี (Emory University) จากการพัฒนา Machine Learning (หรือการที่ AI เรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์) โดยใช้อัลกอริทึมแบบ deep learning ซึ่งทำให้สามารถทำนายความเสี่ยงของการเกิดอาการวิกลจริต (Psychosis) ในอนาคตได้ โดยมีความแม่นยำถึง 93% จากการวิเคราะห์ความหมายแฝงในเนื้อหาของคำพูดที่ปรากฏซ้ำ ๆ ซึ่งมักจะมีลักษณะที่กำกวม และวิเคราะห์เสียงของบุคคล นี่คือตัวอย่างของบทสนทนาของผู้ที่มีอาการหูแว่วในระยะเริ่มต้น จะเห็นได้ว่ามีการใช้คำพูดกำกวมซ้ำไปมา
โดยทีมผู้วิจัยได้เริ่มต้นจากการสร้างชุดคำพูดขึ้น โดยป้อนบทสนทนาจาก ผู้ใช้งาน โซเชียลมีเดีย Reddit จำนวน 30,000 คน และเปลี่ยนบทสนทนาเหล่านี้ให้กลายเป็นปริมาณเวคเตอร์ (ปริมาณในทางคณิตศาสตร์ ซึ่งมีลักษณะไม่เหมือนกับ สเกลาร์ ซึ่งเวคเตอร์เป็นจำนวนที่มีขนาดและทิศทาง) ด้วยโปรแกรม Word2Vec และแยกผู้ที่มีลักษณะการใช้คำกับเสียงต่างจากผู้อื่นออก ทำให้ปัญญาประดิษฐ์ได้เรียนรู้การใช้คำและเสียงแบบพื้นฐานปกติของคนทั่วไป (normal baseline) และต่อมาป้อนข้อมูลบทสนทนาของผู้ที่ถูกวินิจฉัยว่ามีความเสี่ยงต่อโรควิกลจริต ทั้งหมด 40 คน โดยคณะผู้วิจัยได้ทำการเปรียบเทียบการวิเคราะห์ผู้ที่ถูกวิเคราะห์ทั้ง 40 คน กับค่าพื้นฐานปกติที่ได้จากโซเชียลมีเดีย Reddit ซึ่งหากพบว่าบุคคลใช้คำเกี่ยวกับเสียง หรือคำที่มีความหมายในลักษณะเดียวกันซ้ำ ๆ ในอัตราสูง ก็จะมีโอกาสสูงที่บุคคลดังกล่าวจะเป็นโรคจิตหรือวิกลจริตในอนาคต การค้นพบนี้มีความสำคัญต่อวงการวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์อย่างมากเพราะแม้แต่แพทย์ที่ผ่านการฝึกฝนมามาก ก็ยังไม่สามารถสังเกตถึงความเกี่ยวข้องของคำพูดต่อความเสี่ยงของโรคนี้ ผู้วิจัย Neguine Rezaii กล่าวว่า “การพยายามฟังคำพูดที่เป็นรายละเอียดปลีกย่อยเหล่านี้ในบทสนทนากับผู้คน ก็เหมือนการมองเชื้อโรคที่มีขนาดเล็กมากด้วยตาเปล่า” นั่นจึงหมายความว่า สิ่งที่ถูกพัฒนาขึ้นมานี้ จึงเป็นเครื่องมือที่สามารถตรวจจับแบบแผนคำพูดที่ซ่อนอยู่ได้ ซึ่งเป็นสัญญาณของโรควิกลจริต
งานวิจัยนี้จึงไม่ใช่เพียงช่วยทำความเข้าใจในโรคทางจิตเวท แต่ยังทำให้นักวิทยาศาสตร์เข้าใจการทำงานของจิตใจมนุษย์ เทคโนโลยี Machine Learning จึงเป็นเหมือนเครื่องมือที่ช่วยขุดเจาะเหมืองจิตใจที่ล้ำลึกของมนุษย์ได้ลึกขึ้นกว่าที่เคยเป็นมา

A bittersweet update to this: The Liberty Belle crashed south of Chicago June 13, 2011. Most importantly, all aboard survived and no one was seriously injured. But sadly, one more piece of history is gone. Glad I took the opportunity to see it when I had the chance. Kind of wish I would have sprung for the ride in it now.

Il est ouvert au public le 22 février 20102 et a été inauguré le 27 mai 2010.
Le bâtiment paysager de 120 par 160 mètres est constitué d'un sol en béton armé formé de deux coques convexes irrégulières comportant plusieurs patios.
Un toit épousant la forme du sol, constitué d'une charpente mixte bois et acier, couvre d'un seul tenant l'unique niveau. Le bâtiment occupe 20 200 m2 pour une surface de sol de 37 000 m2, sur un étage et un sous-sol de parking.
Le Rolex Learning Center est un lieu d'apprentissage, d'information, et de vie. On y trouve ainsi la bibliothèque de l'école, une librairie, la boutique de l'école, un restaurant haut de gamme, les locaux de l'association Générale des Étudiants (AGEPoly) et de l'association des alumnis de l'EPFL (A3-EPFL), une cafétéria, des espaces de détente et des services administratifs.
