A section of the fence is falling in to disrepair. It looks like a work horse has used it once to often to scratch their side. The horses are well taken care of and are actually used for work during the warm months, the owner just isn't into appearances as far as his fences.

The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish ignored by larger waders. The Roseate Spoonbill nests in shrubs or trees, often mangroves, laying 2 to 5 eggs, which are whitish with brown markings. Immature birds have white, feathered heads, and the pink of the plumage is paler.
Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory is the penultimate stop on the road to Point Traverse, home of the lighthouse that for decades helped ships navigate the many points jutting into Lake Ontario. In the centre of these points lies Long Point Harbour (there seems to have been a problem settling on names for the Point). Around the harbour (all of this is easily viewed on google maps, if one looks up the observatory) are the remains of a small settlement of huts and homes for people working the fishing vessels - empty now but not abandoned (a complex legal battle continues).
The Leanic remains an active commercial fishing vessel on Lake Ontario, though it immediate future has been compromised by extremely low water levels on the Lake. One can see, if you look to the stern or the left of the image, that the ship has had its mobility compromised by very low water levels in the harbour. This is likely very bad news for the people who work the ship and the customers who buy its fish, including whitefish, a great delicacy in Ontario (at least for those of us living away from easy access to them!).
Those water levels have however been a boon to birders. The area around the harbour is always very rich in migratory birds, from Golden Eagles to Eastern Bluebirds, depending on the season. During my recent visit to my good friend Paul, which was informed by strict adherence to distancing protocols, we paid a visit just before the sun went down to scope out the activity prior to a dawn visit the next morning. The low water levels meant that a small group of Greater Yellowlegs had taken up residence in the harbour, scouring the now-exposed bottom of the harbour for food before migrating south. These birds were quite a find because (a) it was November, in Ontario, and (b) because there had been very little shorebird activity around Ottawa because of the opposite problem: very high water levels on the Ottawa River.
This image was taken just before sunset on the day of my arrival, and one of the unphotographed highlights was a juvenile Northern Shrike attacking the Yellowlegs (failing to kill anything, but giving us all a great jolt). Yellowlegs images to follow.

Another of the daffodils in our yard. The blooms are going quickly, though; especially with the rain that has been hammering down on us.
We all need some one to lean on at some time in our life's, and it looks like its this old VW's time Thank god for a friendly wall.
I haven't posted in black and white for a while; so when I awoke and saw the fog I knew there was a chance to re-address this.

No surprise to the state's gardeners, Massachusetts has just released a report saying this is the driest Summer on record...and the hottest. But even short-lived thunder storms provide enough rain to give things a little boost - so we're not completely without flowers. This is a gorgeous dahlia that somehow managed not only to bloom in the dry heat, but to thrive.

Came across this amazing house last weekend....I think the bank has quite the "lean" on it (hahaha).
Must have been quite the house in it's day...would love to know the history on it.
Lean On Me at a distance. After four years walking through these woodlands, I never noticed I could see the Lean On Me tree from across the lake. Using the 70-200, this scene has very nice isolation amidst the snowy forest. This was taken on Christmas Eve 2024.
I've been keeping myself in shape recently by going to the gym 3 times a week and hopefully it's starting to pay off. Being able to still squeeze into my slinky dresses is a good incentive to continue!

Bear with me. I felt compelled to do a series of shots of my favorite bridge in the world, with her magnificent colors of water and sky. I visit only once a year (for 46 straight years), and every time there is nobody here, leaving her and her ruins lonely and forgotten. I will never forget her beauty, or Henry Flagler. The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is a disused bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. Originally part of the Overseas Railway, the State of Florida purchased it after the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and converted it to provide automobile use as part of the Overseas Highway in 1938. After a replacement Bahia Honda Bridge was opened in 1972, two spans of the bridge were removed (in the 80's) to accommodate boat traffic and make the majority of the bridge inaccessible to pedestrian traffic, but the rest remain standing. It was originally built by Henry Flagler as part of the Overseas Railroad which was completed in 1912. Flagler funded the construction of the bridge, along with the rest of the railway himself. It was purchased by the state of Florida and converted for highway use in 1938 after the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Rather than completely rebuilding the bridge after the hurricane, the existing structure was repaired and the deck for the Overseas Highway was added on top, as the existing deck inside the truss was too narrow for vehicular traffic. The bridge served as the primary mode of transport to the islands of the lower Keys, and as a primary evacuation route.
A new four-lane bridge was built in 1980, a few hundred yards north of the old bridge, replacing the old route of U.S. 1. Today, the former bridge provides a scenic overview of the area for tourists. Two of the truss spans have been removed in order to facilitate boat traffic, as the new bridge has an increased span height. The original bridge has fallen into a state of disrepair and signs have been posted on the bridge warning boat traffic to watch for falling debris, but all of the sections have remained standing (not counting the two that were removed).
