These intriguing and talented spiders protect themselves from predators by hiding inside an impressively constructed, silk-seamed curled leaf that sits roughly at the middle of their web.

Each curled-leaf retreat, a miracle in itself.

Endemic to the eastern areas of this country. Genus Phonognatha, perhaps graeffei.

We can shoot the maples on the tree.

We can shoot the maples on the ground.

We can shoot the maples in the water!

I believe water is always friend to photographers as it creates many possibilities of composition including reflection and long expsoure etc.

These are maples in the small creek at Queen Elizabeth Park taken this afternoon.

Happy weekend!

I'm getting more into close-up and bokeh shots now. Close focusing distance and lens at its widest aperture.

Partially that is driven by the landscape looking really drab in my state. It'll be another month or so before anything starts to green or bloom. So I'm grasping at straws or leaf litter in this case.

Yes I know another autumn leaf photo. As if there aren't enough on flickr at the moment!

Well after three days of rain the sun made a brief appearance this morning and lit up the cornus/ dogwood bush outside my window. The combination of colour and backlight was just too much to resist.

This leaf could easily be a beautiful painting.

Monstera deliciosa

Rilke, Rainer Maria (1875-1926)

Die Blätter fallen, fallen wie von

weit,

als welkten in den Himmeln ferne

Gärten;

sie fallen mit verneinender Gebärde.

Und in den Nächten fällt die schwere

Erde

aus allen Sternen in die Einsamkeit.

Wir alle fallen. Diese Hand da fällt.

Und sieh dir andre an: es ist in allen.

Und doch ist Einer, welcher dieses

Fallen

unendlich sanft in seinen Händen hält.

Believe it or not, this is a section of a lamp created from various colored leafs that are either natural or have been tinted. It was an absolutely gorgeous lamp and I was so tempted to bring it home.

This plant has thick leaves, with an almost suede finish which makes for a very grippy surface for water droplets. These droplets appear to defy gravity, clinging to a steep slope. They were entirely natural - from an rain during the night, still not evaporated in the early morning.
