This is a common object, but not when made in lead. The design is often encountered in Victorian bronze and iron keys, but lead does occasionally turn up. The shank is a nice bulbous shape, the perforations in the thumb plate tear shaped. The recess in the end for locating on the tap is square in this case, triangular is more common. Weighs 50g. The style points more to this being an earlier piece, say 18c. high Georgian. Such keys were used in accessing beer or spirits from the cask, but also used for other tasks such as clock winding keys, opening doors and in some plumbing situations, so a definite identification is difficult. Found in the Lune Valley, Cumbria.

Last week my lead called me into hall bath and pointed out two big chips in the lovely countertops. I am agonizing over whelther we knocked these chips into counter or not. However, there hasn't been any large tools in the room, but electrician was in room installing bath fan. A ladder caused these chips??? Or they were there before
