Andrew Pearson, leading runner at this point and the eventual winner, is just creeping into shot on the left. His winning time was 1:07:45.
Drunk in the Garage is one of the newer performers at the Doo Dah Parade. They sing the praises of beer, beer, and more beer. In other words, their name pretty much describes the running theme that appears in all of the songs they performed at the 2013 parade. To catch some of those songs, and to see them rehearse (as seen in this frame capture from video), go to YouTube:

You can also see them in a compilation video I recently created, which you can click on the link below:
So we spend a couple hours at the range, and we're happy with the drills we're doing. Then Ken lays down a few mags, and we feel like drooling babes in the, err, desert. THANKS KEN. JERK. Range day on FOB Faylok / Normandy, near Muqdadiya, Diyala Province, Iraq, 25Mar2008.
Our old, leaded glass windows had the classic wavy distortions. For most of the twenty two years we've lived here, the house was so unsquare in this corner, the lower sash on this window would only come up a few inches. Sometimes it'd get stuck open really bad.
This was April 2006, and I took this picture with my brand new Nikon D50. That D50 was my first time using any kind of SLR camera. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! It was a transcendent experience hearing the shutter open and close, for the first time. This was when I was getting a lot more serious about photography. I know some people will read this and snicker......a transcendent experience on a Nikon D50? But, yes :-)
Shortly after this, being at home with my first son when he was a baby dramatically slowed my path in photography. I was keeping at it, though. Progress was halting and tediously incremental. However, if you do something long enough, a lot of little things start to sink in.
Now I'm digging deeper, with my new-to-me F100. I'm excited about the skills I'll learn with film, how it will open new doors for me even with my digital photography. Taking pictures with my dad's very basic Minolta SRT-102 since last autumn got me hooked, wanting to delve into analog a lot more. But I wanted to work with something more modern. Once I get my feet under me with the F100, I'll experiment with developing my own film.
Another metal detecting find from the shores of Lake Superior. This lead weight used to attach to fish nets and the fisherman's initials were stamped on the weight to identify ownership.
Pretty cool find, I have a few of these now but this is the nicest one of the bunch. Buy my books at www.duaneroy.com

My daughter has been getting horrible grades in spelling until I started doing this. I create these crazy flash cards in photoshop, and then use them as the screen saver on our computer.
I get the spelling words in advance, and open photoshop, and just start google- image searching. I look for on tipoc pics, but also I keep the letters in mind that she cannot remember. I look for images that recall or could recall those letters' shapes, as well as reinforce the meaning of the word- a mountain replaces the letter 'a' in "peak" for example.
another strategy is that I interfere with the letter that she cannot recall- this week I have some one "stealing" the letter 'a' from the word 'steal', another week a baby bit off the corner of the letter 'w' from 'chew'.
The best spellers are visual. She is visual. I am trying to cement these connections in her head.
She has gone from failing to getting a's and a pluses last year. THis year she was getting C's and I'm waiting to get out first 'pst-visual' test back.
Striker Brad Carsley scored goals in each half to give Longridge the lead but on each occasion saw Tempest United peg them back. Longridge next face Whitehaven on Saturday with 3 points essential for their title fight.
