The cloud cover over Totnes early yesterday evening was in dark and light layers. The higher light layer seemed to form a dome over the whole area.

A thin layer of Super Sculpey over a thin layer of foil over the armature. I've tweaked the pose and shaping a little bit and baked to set this prior to adding details.

There's a bit more shape than appears in the pictures - the translucency tends to hide form a bit.

I've started layering my geonosis MOC but I still have lots to do.

I need to cover 2 more baseplates, layer and get a lot more clones, along with all that I need to wait for the new 2013 summer sets to be released.

I made two lasagnes, of which this is the second one. It is made of layers of garlic bechamel sauce, a tomato, red wine, mushroom sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and veggie mince.

The first one was devoured by Nils and Jules, and I didn't get a picture of it, but it was lovely so I'm going to share the recipe, adapted from Epicurious. I didn't make my own pesto and we had no hazelnuts, and I also used a can of tomato puree, which I think was a good idea.

Ingredients:

For béchamel

1 garlic clove, minced

1.5 T butter

2.5 T flour

2.5 C whole milk

1 bay leaf

salt and pepper

For ricotta mixture

a small handful of fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves

3 ounces/1.5 C grated Parmigiano

2/3 C olive oil

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

salt and pepper

1 large egg

350 g ricotta

200 g pesto

For lasagne

3 medium eggplants, cut crosswise into 1/3-inch-thick slices

olive oil

salt and pepper

no-boil lasagne noodles

Make béchamel:

Cook garlic in butter in a heavy saucepan over moderately low heat, stirring, 1 minute. Add flour and whisk for 3 minutes. Add milk in a stream, whisking. Add bay leaf and bring to a boil over moderately high heat, whisking constantly, then reduce heat and simmer, whisking occasionally, until liquid is reduced and thickened, about 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper, then remove from heat and discard bay leaf. Cover surface of sauce with wax paper until ready to use.

Make pesto and ricotta mixture by blending all ingredients in a bowl:

Roast eggplant:

Preheat oven to 450°F and oil large baking sheets. Brush eggplant with oil on both sides, then arrange in one layer and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake, switching position of sheets halfway through baking and turning slices over once, until tender: 20 to 25 minutes total.

Assemble lasagne:

Put oven rack in middle position and reduce oven temperature to 425°F. Lightly oil a glass or ceramic baking dish and line a larger shallow baking pan with foil.

Spread all ingredients in alternating layers in baking dish, finishing with cheese, and bake until bubbling and golden.

On our excursion to Montana De Oro last month, we ran into a wide range of sky conditions -- everything from completely overcast to 90% clear.

This was THE perfect sky with the cloud layers doing their best to mimic the layers of the rocks jutting from the beach into the ocean. Of course, it didn't last until sunset, so I tried the next best thing -- a black and white conversion.

I experimented with this one a lot in pp -- using both NX and SEP, but I wasn't quite happy with either one on their own. This one is a Frankenblend of both programs.

I'd love to hear your feedback.

A really nice shot of some fungi growing in lots of layers. Love the colours.

Constructed in the first half of the reign of Henry VIII, Layer Marney Tower is in many ways the apotheosis of the Tudor gatehouse, and is the tallest example in Britain. It is contemporaneous with East Barsham Manor and Sutton Place, Surrey, with which latter building it shares the rare combination of brick and terracotta construction.

The building is principally the creation of Henry 1st Lord Marney, who died in 1523, and his son John, who continued the building work but died just two years later, leaving no male heirs to continue the family line or the construction. What was completed was the main range measuring some three hundred feet long, the principal gatehouse that is about eighty feet tall, an array of outbuildings, and a new church.

The buildings suffered considerable damage from the Great English earthquake of 1884, and a subsequent report in 'The Builder' magazine described the state of the house as such that ‘the outlay needed to restore the towers to anything like a sound and habitable condition would be so large that the chance of the work ever being done appears remote indeed’. The repairs were begun by brother and sister Alfred and Kezia Peache, who re-floored and re-roofed the gatehouse, as well as creating the garden to the south of the Tower.

I took a little serendipity trip into Belcarra, Goodwin Johnson, Allied Ship Yard and finally under the Lion's Gate Bridge. Just poking around to see what I could see.

Sorry, I purchased this fabric about 1 1/2years ago from fatquartershop so I don't remember the name. I made this for my Aunt who had brain surgery a little while ago and now is having seizures from the scar tissues build up. Something to make her smile.

I thought that this was as good a time as any to reveal this image. I thought is responded well to the use of multiple layers. This time I pealed out the Layers dialog to show how something like this is built up in Photoshop. Understand that one reason for Photoshop layer is to leave tracks of your work in case it becomes necessary to ease backtracking through what can be for many, a laborious process.

Personally, I don't think of any of these as particularly mysterious. The RAW layers are explained in my RAW Layers Photo Set and throughout my Stream. The Shadows Alpha Transparency Layer is what brought up the sandstone rock wall, steps and tree bark from the blacks. The reasoning behind the Sky Mask is of course to carefully build up a layer that can be later selected (Ctrl-Click on the M ask Layer Icon) and then Delete the skies in the Base and Shadows Layers. The original sky came from "A flair for mornings" image I recently posted. Noticed that the "Shadows Exposure" Layer and the "Sky Mask" Layer are shut off: they are only used for the process. Other than that feel free to slap me with comments and/or questions but if you need more meat in an answer, I might need an attachable e-mail address for a response.

EXPO Shanghai, October 2010

The Ninbo Tengtou Pavilion is the only village pavilion at the EXPO exhibition.

It is designed by Wang Shu and Lu Wenvy (Amateur Architecture Studio) and is one of the most poetic experience I had at the exhibition and it gave me a lot of hope for chinese architecture in the future.

They were representing China at Venice Biennale this year 2010 with "Decay of a Dome"

Wang Shu is Professor and Head of the Architecture department at China Academy of Art, Hangzhou.
