Céide Fields Sea View

The Céide Fields (Irish: Achaidh Chéide, meaning "fields of the flat-topped hill") is an archaeological site on the north Mayo coast in the west of Ireland, about 8 kilometres northwest of Ballycastle. The site is the most extensive Stone Age site in the world and contains the oldest known field systems in the world. Using various dating methods, it was discovered that the creation and development of the Céide Fields goes back some five and a half thousand years.

History

The discovery of the Céide Fields originally began in the 1930s when a local man, schoolteacher Patrick Caulfield, noticed piles of stones which were uncovered as he cut away turf for fuel. In these piles he saw a design that could not have been haphazard; Caulfield noted that the stones must have been placed there by people, because their configuration was clearly unnatural and deliberate. Furthermore, the stones were positioned below the bog, which meant they were there before the bog developed, implying a very ancient origin.

The unravelling of the true significance of this discovery did not begin for another forty years when Patrick's son, Seamus, having studied archaeology, began to investigate further. Investigations revealed a complex of fields, houses and megalithic tombs concealed by the growth of blanket bogs over the course of many centuries.

My 2014 started with a really interesting shoot of a very high-end luxury four stories apartment on the Palm Jumeirah and although it will take me a while to go through all the interior images, I thought I’ll at least post a shot of the amazing view this apartment has. It’s probably the best view I’ve seen looking towards this part of the city and I was lucky with a fairly clear day to capture it all. For those of you that are not familiar with Dubai, in the foreground you have the fronds of the man-made Palm Jumeirah, in the middle ground, the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, while in the background, the skyline around the Business Bay area with the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, at it’s center. Not a bad city at all!

On another note, a few days ago, I received an invitation to participate in the Kerala Blog Express, an initiative by the Kerala Tourism, which will see 25 travel bloggers, writers and photographers travel through the beautiful region of Kerala in India. Part of the decision about who gets to go, will be made based on the voting for each blogger. If you have the time and would like to see some images from Kerala on this blog, you can vote for me here. Thank you!

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.

As part of the 'Momentum' series, this image offers a multi-dimensional view of observation. Through a window's reflection, it presents a woman's profile superimposed on a traditional Asian landscape, symbolizing the dual nature of our engagement with the world around us. It’s an exploration of the inner and outer journeys that define our personal momentum through life.

The layers of color and texture here were intriguing and reminded me of a fancy confection.

I took a walk around some wetlands today hoping to see some waterbirds. But I didn't find many apart from pelican, swans, ducks, coots two ibis and a swamp hen. The clouds however were fabulously layered giving a humid feel to the day.

Hello everyone! It's been a bit, but I'm back and super inspired 0.< This one was really fun to play with. I'm pretty sure this is even the first time I tried an upside down picture and I think it turned out nice for the first time! Enjoy!
