Here's an interesting detail in one of the rock cuts at the wollastonite mine near my house. It looks like a blob of pink and green granite bubbled up though this darker coloured rock, and "froze" in place.
my friend has a lava lamp in her room and I was just playing with my shutter speed on my Nikon D3000. Ending up looking somewhat like outer space.
Having recently posted a picture of a bottle of whiskey and an IPA, I fiqure I should give equal billing to red wine -- what I typically drink. Here, a "value-priced" Cabernet and glass, pictures of my children when they were young, a shot from Road Atlanta, a Dodge Viper diecast model, and my lava lamp.
Tiny wax bubbles bobbing, flexing and sliding down. Quietly they play, waiting for someone to notice.
Just playing around with a lava lamp and some manual settings on my camera.
I saw THIS picture and fell in love and tried to do some experimenting of my own. Not perfect like hers, but hey..it's my first time! LOL
I used PS CS2 to change the levels of the background to make it darker so the star stood out even more. Thanks Jenn for the idea!
I turned on my lava lamp the other day for the first time in ages. As I sat staring at it, mesmerized by the floating blobs within, I thought of this.
Looking at the finished drawing I realize that it seems... familiar. It's very close to being a self portrait. Well, the non-lava half, anyway. Scary.
Drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet.

The quality of glass in the lava lamp isnβt the best, which doesnβt make for the best photo - not that it was going to be the best photo anyway, but itβs fun though, right?
Ahh, Sunday the 11th. Cleaning and relaxing, getting lightbulbs to get the last two lava lamps working and enjoying the most atmospheric evening in my cosy little home in a good while.
Lava lamps make me happy. Especially four in a row of differing colors. :-)
Exclamation Mark !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Another from the Lava Lamp. It took the lamp absolutely ages to warm up and produce these shapes. It was then a case of trying to capture interesting shapes at the right moment
The lava doesn't age well. View large.

Anyone need sterilized tacks?
I googled "sterilized tacks" and this very post comes up. lol
They are upholsterers tacks. Maybe they don't rust on upholstery when
sterilized?
purple lava lamp....... We had this in college, but the light bulb burned out in 1996 or 1997. We only found a replacement in 2007! Carolyn tried to get bulbs to replace the microwave, and they didn't fit. But they fit into our newly-installed ceiling fans, our newly-installed recessed lights, and apparantly - the lava lamp. So while it might not be Lava-Brand (where does one get those?!), it works for a party. At least it works, period, after 10 years of being out of commission!
Now if someone could direct me to a URL where I can buy lava brand bulbs...
