the lifeboat launch ramp at the Point Reyes Historic Lifeboat Station on Drakes Bay near Chimney Rock. Built in 1927, it used these rails to launch 36-ft lifeboats to help ships foundering off Point Reyes. The station was closed in 1969, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
