Knowledge can be assimilated to culture because this too is experienced by the individual after it has been sought and the research has left something in him. But there is no room for a "culture of knowledge", one that favors knowledge and awareness before action.

On the University High School building on the campus of the University of Illinois, two nymphs embrace the book of knowledge, and the light and life that spring from it. One, holding a globe, represents the sciences, and the other, holding a harp, represents the arts. Together they look toward the light of knowledge, acknowledging the balance that it brings, and their mutual dependence upon it.

Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).

They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.

They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.

His room was small and cold. The heater was left on day and night, even though it's a well know fact that fire caused by such heaters are the number one cause of deaths in South Africa's squatter areas.

Inside there was a bed, a torn couch, one chair, the heater, and for some odd reason, a computer. I didn't make any comment about it for the first half of my stay. It did fascinate me though; the context of it's existence, that is. There were nights where we had only a few slices of bread and a small portion of fried chips to share, so 'how could Kheta ever afford a computer?', I pondered. Our bellies were empty, but his computer was full of songs. How could it be?

As time passed, I saw how Kheta produced intricate music on this computer, even crafting speakers out of broken headphones he had stumbled upon.

I began to realize something: I was in the company of a very special person, and something equally special had to come from this trip.
