Wards Knowledge was granted to John Ward on March 10, 1694 by the Lord Proprietary of Maryland, and has been owned by the family at least up until 1967. The property is on the Cecilton-Sassafras road at Ward's Hill. The rambling frame house consists of the original building with the additions made at later times. In 1820 John Ward Davis inherited the farm and had the beautiful iron grill work placed around the front porch. It is comparable to that found on mansions throughout the South.

Sometimes it seems there's a famine of both.
From the facade of the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, now the Lincoln Leisure Center, in Bloomington, Illinois. The school was decommissioned and turned into an activity center a few years ago. Right now, though, the juxtaposition of its former name with its new name seems especially poignant. We've plenty of leisure, but we don't know what to do with it.

The Traveling Greenhouse is about sharing knowledge and food production skills between schools across the region. Local educators use the greenhouse for a growing season and teach students how to cultivate foods in our Alaskan climate. Schools and community partners are left with the resources and inspiration needed to continue growing food in greenhouses and outdoor gardens long after the greenhouse wheels out of town and heads out on the Alaska Marine Highway to the next eagerly awaiting community.
These photos show the community of Kake using the greenhouse and also building raised garden beds to expand their growing capacities.

The Victorian fantasy castle we see today hides the complex history of Castell Coch fortresses at the head of the Taff gorge, the earliest of which was probably Norman - and wooden. This was followed by the stone edifice of the Clare family which is believed to have fallen into disuse after the damage it suffered during the early 14th century Welsh rebellion.
Not until 1875 were the old ruins transformed by the architect William Burges and John Patrick Crichton-Stuart, the third marquess of Bute (a man made fantastically wealthy by the industrial growth in South Wales in the period). The pair had already collaborated on Cardiff Castle and these two buildings represent some of the finest examples of Victorian medievalism in the UK. Lord Bute, an obsessive antiquarian, was reputed to be the richest man in the world, whilst Burges used his knowledge of the great castles of Europe as well as of medieval manuscripts to influence their designs. Sadly, Burges died in 1881, ten years before Castell Coch's completion and with Lord Bute's death in 1900, the castle spent most of the subsequent years as an occasional summer residence until being handed over to the Ministry of Works in 1950 for its conservation. It is now cared for by CADW which has managed to return many of its original pieces of furniture and replicate period fabric to maintain Castell Coch's 1891 appearance
