Dudley Biddlecomb has been raising and farming oysters in his family's bed since he was born, where his grandfather started dredging oysters in the 1800s. Biddlecomb is passing his knowledge of new techniques to rebuild the oyster population in and around the Chesapeake Bay to his apprentice Peter Hedlund. Photos taken on Thursday, June 28 2012.

I have in my back yard a pomelo tree (a tropical citrus with large fruit) and on it a couple of orchids a friend gave me about 7 years ago but only last year did they decide to flower. They do look pretty but I have no idea of the species. I have poor knowledge of orchids. Any idea? One of my contacts is an orchid specialist - is that name ?? I can't recall. They flower in Sept and Oct which is Spring here.
Aston University has helped to raise awareness of the breadth and quality of its Knowledge Transfer activities by holding a poster event to showcase the research projects currently running at the University in partnership with local and national companies.
In our fast and digital times of computers, networking and interactive mobile devices, there is only little room left, for different paces, concentration on quiet things. By utilizing old handcraft techniques such as Macrame – a knotted net using red ribbon wire –, this installation not only aims to preserve the knowledge of traditional artwork, but also the creation processes with time for talk and information exchange. By taking this individual work out of the context of private homes and placing it into public space, this project becomes a beautiful and poetical call for preserving old handwork techniques – also as an inspiring and creative resource for new structures and designs. We definitely enjoyed it !!!
Sanchi Foundation initiates its unique lecture series called “Knowledge Series” or ‘Gnana SaraNi (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಸರಣಿ)‘ in order to achieve its objective to document Heritage and Contemporary art & knowledge branches. Renowned conservation zoologist & a leading tiger expert Dr. K. Ullas Karanth gave the first lecture of this series. He spoke about “Todays Challenges in Environmental Protection” on 15th Feb, 2014. He was accompanied by Shekar Datatri, a national award winning wildlife film maker with his supporting references.
Sanchi’s Knowledge Series (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಸರಣಿ) is an unique monthly lecture series planned for the next one year. Sanchi Foundation aims to do a audio & visual recording of this lecture series so that i can be shared on Internet under creative commons license.

The ‘Ecosystem-based Adaptation South’ project seeks to help the Seychelles, Nepal and Mauritania to adapt to climate change, in part by restoring natural habitats across all types of ecosystems. In the Seychelles, on-the-ground ecological restoration will rehabilitate 29 hectares of mangrove and wetland forests, thus providing natural flood barriers. Signage informing the blooming Rafflesia flowers in the vicinity. The locations may be several meters to even kilometers away from the roadsides. These giant flowers will bloom lasting a few days. Sometimes there won’t be any blooms for many months and well connected tourist agents have prior knowledge to arrange visits to visitors for a small fee.

Please mark your calendars! We have confirmed Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Rain or Shine, as the day and time we clean up the stream in the North Point Section (from behind the ARC to North Point Boulevard). ANY time you can give to helping us out is more than appreciated. We are continuing with this section since it has never been cleaned (to the best of our knowledge).
Remember, there will be plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We will need every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the Clean Up. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we can use people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to work the grills as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and
Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. Please feel free to pass this information on to other who might be interesting in helping as well. As my grandfather always said, “Many hands makes the work light”
Our cleanups are part of an ongoing effort clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration. (Bread and Cheese Creek has been noted as one of the highlighted locations on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail) The creek played a rather significant part in the Battle of North Point which took place on September 12, 1814. Both the American and British Troops camped along its banks. It is rumored that the young heroes Daniel Wells (19) and Henry McComas (18) used the stream channel to sneak up on British General Robert Ross killing him with their muskets before being killed in return fire. This important part of our history should not be left the eyesore it currently is.

I think the symbolism was lost on me... but I enjoyed the faucets on these. Like, I have no idea what the artist was going for including them, but they made me smile just by being there. Yes, I'm kind of weird.
