Great Western Railway Class 42xx 2-8-0T 4277 "Hercules" rolls into a relatively tranquil-looking Kingswear with the 15:30 from Paignton. There was little planning for this shot, I didn't have any knowledge of the timetable so in hindsight I was lucky that I heard a whistle just after parking and was able to locate a vantage point.

For “Knowledge is Golden” the inspiration was specific to the area which the mural was done. San Francisco is seeing its second gold rush with information and knowledge being the currency of today. SOMA, being slated to be developed as the new downtown of San Francisco with technology leading the transformation, is why we chose this location for our message.

Gold miners have been replaced by tech innovators. Pickaxes and shovels have been replaced with laptops and desktops. Though the times have changed, the human thirst for chasing opportunity remains prevalent in these times. And with this influx of new people, San Francisco culture as we know it will never be the same.

There are several pathways to attaining Nirvana. It is the union of Right Knowledge, Right Faith and Right Conduct that eventually leads to Nirvana.

The central multicolored figure represents a neuron; it is the memory bank as well as the source of transmission of full spectrum of knowledge. There are several categories of knowledge. Every human being has intrinsic faculty to harvest them. Each of the knowledge is assigned a specific color. Green-derived from scriptures, blue-subjective cognition, red- super sensory perception, orange- reading the thoughts of others and light yellow-omniscience. Black indicates ignorance or lack of knowledge, which pervades the human kind resulting in the cycles of birth and death.

The light background reflects the aura that surrounds the person having righteous knowledge. One must appropriately apply it to start the process of attaining Nirvana.

Inside an Indigo Books store, the word "knowledge" is painted on the wall in large block letters above the massive magazine stand. The room was very quiet despite being full of shoppers. The only sound that made everyone look in my direction was the distinctive shutter click of my camera.

Motivational Sunsets

Model: Cazz Walker.

Setup:

We went to the University of Kent's library and ended up shooting in the critical theory section. Istood on one of the things to step on when you need to reach the higher books. I gave Cazz a 580EX and he put it in his shirt with the head looking out, with the wide angle shield out and the catchlight thingy out as well, in oder to make sure that the light would spread nicely over the entire book and that some of the light would be bounced back down onto the book by the flap. Result: the light bounces off the book onto Cazz' face and breast, from where it bounces onto his hands and a little bit on the back of the book.

I had a friend's SB-800 to the left just in front of Cazz (hidden by the book that sticks out on the left), but it didn't fire for this shot. I used the eBay triggers from Gadget Infinity for the first time here, still with the shipped batteries, and they're not 100% reliable. Which happened to be good here, as it allowed for more ambient light to remain around the edges while I twist-zoomed during the exposure. I should have seen the potential of this during the shooting and opened the aperture a bit, but this one turned out ok so I guess it's alright.

Thanks to strobist.com this is the first time I've seriously worked with off-camera flash. I like the new possibilities.

This gent's speciality was a knowledge of all the places from Talwandi Sabo to Hazur Sahib (Nanded). He knew the names of these places by rote and offered a high speed rendition in either direction. Stop him mid sentence...and he would effortlessly start again from the town he halted at.

Our Daily Challenge ... knowledge.

Books were the record of much knowledge for centuries but the Internet has had a huge impact on where we store information and how we find it. No individual could possibly know and remember everything that they will ever need to know in their lifetime but if they know how to find what they need to know using books, Internet, other people, experimentation etc. it will not be a problem.

Saraswati is a Goddess that was worshipped in the Vedic religion. She is the goddess of knowledge and all literary arts including music, arts, and speech. She is also worshipped as the Goddess of thoughts of truth and forgiving. She is mentioned in the Rig Veda as well as in Puranic texts. It was likely that She originated as a river Goddess because Her name in Sanskrit means "she who has lakes or pools". (Taken from: www.thaiexotictreasures.com/saraswati.html)

House of Knowledge - Statue by Jaume Plensa on display currently at Chatsworth House

After being inspired by Flicker I have decided the only way to improve on my photography is practise, practise, practise!! Today was an attempt at self portrait – and as you know I prefer to be behind the scene rather that in front! Myself will be revealed as time passes on so, what’s for my first photo?? My fave pastime at the moment is reading photography books. So for my first shot - me engrossed!! I did not realize just how difficult taking self portrait can be in regards to focus, and how time consuming it becomes to constantly set self timer and recompose etc. A learning experience today. So for my first shot – my 44 year old hand holds a wealth of knowledge that needs to be applied to real life!

For knowledge, too is itself a power.

or, Many mysteries unravelled. Delineated in a series of letters, between a friend and his correspondent, comprising the learned pig, invisible lady and acoustic temple, philosophical swan, penetrating spy glasses, optical and magnetic, and various other curiosities on similar principles: also, a few of the most wonderful feats as performed by the art of legerdemain, with some reflections on ventriloquism
