Before knowing anything about Green Marble, we must be accustomed to Marble, as a basic and geological term. In geology, marble is a metamorphic rock. When metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks takes place in the crust of Earth due to contact of hot magma, the calcite rocks such as limestone or dolomites are turned into marble. The crystallization of carbonate minerals along with clay, quartz, pyrites, graphite, and iron oxides are forming an interlocking mess of mosaics and veins in marble.

Knowing that the stabilizers were OK, I figured I'd test the fit using the switches I plan to use as well.
Shona Art, to me, is very seductive and extremely beautiful.
The variety of soft and hard coloured stone that is used invites one to explore it, both visually and mentally. It is mesmerizing to sit an contemplate.
This lovely piece is out of Serpentine stone and was done by Elliot Katombera who is a young Shoto Artist who works out of Harare, Zimbabwe.
The serpentine group describes a group of common rock-forming hydrous magnesium iron phyllosilicate minerals; they may contain minor amounts of other elements including chromium, manganese, cobalt and nickel.
In mineralogy and gemology, serpentine may refer to any of 20 varieties belonging to the serpentine group.There are three important mineral polymorphs of serpentine: antigorite, chrysotile and lizardite.
In the variety found throughout Zimbabwe its colours vary from black to brown to green, orange and variegated. Hardness level varies from very soft to vary hard. Measured on a moss scale where a diamond is ten, serpentine goes from 1.2 up to 6.54. The majority of the sculptors today, however do not carve from soft serpentine, but rather select deposits of rock that are hard and therefore more durable.
Katombera is around 30 years old and has been working with Shona Sclupture for the last 15 years.
This small piece also graces my home.

First, I know I broke some rules of photography in this frame. Knowing this, I still do like this image somewhat.

For me, the canonet is an oddly controlled camera. With any other camera, if I am not shooting in manual mode, then I shoot in aperture priority. When using the electric eye meter on the QL17 the only control the user has is shutter speed. Strange.
Stranger yet, inside the viewfinder there is a needle indicator informing the aperture the camera has chosen for the correct exposure. The numbers displayed are the usual standard steps: 1.7, 2.8, 4, 5.6 and on up to 16. The interesting thing about the GIII is that the needle can come to rest inbetween the standard stops. I am assuming that the camera stops at whatever aperture it requires whether it is standard or not.
You can never be certain exactly what the aperture is when shooting in the automated mode. Not knowing exactly is not a big deal, I just find it interesting that canon made the canonet with such a fine adjusting aperture capability. Impressive really, particularly for 1972.

This set of images detail the production processes involved in crafting machine-made Leaver’s lace at a small Victorian factory in Derbyshire, England. Research was undertaken at this last remaining lace factory to capture what the lace makers know, to preserve their knowledge on how this lace is made. Direct visual engagement can serve better than written texts to communicate this process to non-specialist audiences.
The research also aimed to understand the relationship between embodied knowing, the material environment and routinized processes. As these images demonstrate, skillful practice is not something that exists solely within a person, divorced from environmental clues, but is part of a relation between persons and machinery, persons and materials, persons and other persons, whether via direct interaction or mediated through things. Again, photography serves as a rich tool for grasping and communicating these relationships as they are materialized in the lace making process.

Master Sergeant Michael Lock from the 440th Airlift Wing’s 53rd Aerial Port Squadron fills out paperwork during a deployment readiness exercise at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., October 3, 2009. Over the years MSgt Lock has become a pro at processing through the deployment line. He has deployed approximately 10 times since 2001. He explained that these exercises are important because it allows the experienced airmen to provide guidance and input for future exercises, as well as allowing the inexperienced airmen the opportunity to prepare for the possibility of actually processing a real deployment line. So today is Day 1 of not knowing when I'll hear from the Boy next. I know a lot of people are "used" to going extended periods without talking to their significant other, but when you're already separated it has a whole new meaning. It's been 4 months since we've seen each other and that was for a whole 5 days. His mission will now cancel the time we were going to spend in Hawai'i together. Now I pray that our planned vacation in April is not somehow messed with. Oh the joys of trying to have a relationship in the military.
Today, while running for PT, I was thinking about how things can quickly go to hell in a handbasket in this job. And how this change can be based on only one person. But I'm not goint to go into that. I've just been thinking about a lot lately...amazing since I don't have much time to think.
The clinic was just chaotic today...and I didn't even work in it. Add to that Soldier issues and having so much to do that you don't even know where to start and it just adds to the stress. One more "official" day in the old clinic. It's going to be hard for me to leave it. I've been learning in this place for the last 5 years. There are a lot of great memories in the OVTF. Yes, there are some NOT so great, but in the end Okinawa has a wonderful place in my life.
So, I'm watching UP and then I'm going to head to bed. No PT tomorrow, so I'm headed to work early so maybe I can catch up on charts and pack up my office.

Knowing that in all probability this is the last good weekend before winter sets in for 6 months everyone and his brother were in Derbyshire. Luckily I managed to shoe horn my car into a car park a mile or so from the valley I wanted to explore - where the bridge in the distance leads to.
Day One Hundred and Eighty Three:
It was a hot, sunny, lovely day out there today. Nice enough to do a bit of gardening, hide from the sun and look cool in a great big hat. And when it's all done and finished you settle down with a nice big drink, maybe not that big.
Oh gawd it's still so hot. Not sure the exact temperature but my inner thermometer has moved from comfortable to squelchy bordering on pool of goo soaking into the carpet. Though I've no doubt I'll have people in hotter countries wishing they were here I can honestly say yes you're right you should come here and I can sleep easy knowing I've done my bit for the tourist trade.
Oh yes come over, come up, come back and come in you'll have the most fun you've ever had in this particular country unless you've been here before and had a better time already. It could happen.
Give my name at customs for a bewildered look and a free full body search. If they don't find your body on the first try you get to keep the rubber gloves.

Knowing God: Is God Always Merciful and Loving?

The Bible records: “Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me” (Jonah 1:1-2). “And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown” (Jonah 3:4). “And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me; and if not, I will know” (Genesis 18:20-21). “Then the LORD rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground” (Genesis 19:24-25). Without doubt, all those who have read the Bible know that there were two well-known cities in the Age of Law; one was Nineveh and the other Sodom. Both these two great cities had become corrupt to the extreme and were filled with violence, which provoked God’s anger, so that God was going to destroy them. In the end, however, because of the different attitudes of the inhabitants of the two cities, God saved the city of Nineveh and destroyed Sodom. What aspects of God’s disposition can we perceive from these two things done by God? First, let us look at the attitude of the people of Nineveh. When these people heard the news that their city would be overthrown in forty days, their attitude was to repent willingly. As it is written: “So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God: yes, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands” (Jonah 3:5-8). When God sent Jonah to proclaim the message to the people of Nineveh, they believed that God would destroy the city, so they forsook the violence in their hands, turned away from their evil ways, and confessed their sins and repented before God in sackcloth and ashes. Seeing the people of Nineveh truly repent, God changed His heart and spared them from the catastrophe. But the people of Sodom did the exact opposite. It is written: “But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men which came in to you this night? bring them out to us, that we may know them” (Genesis 19:4-5). When the two angels sent by God came to the city of Sodom, not only did the people in it not stop their evil deeds, but they were more evil than ever, attempting to harm the two angels. Their evil deeds of resisting God finally provoked God’s anger, and they were destroyed by brimstone and fire from God...
Today in the last days, the Lord Jesus has become flesh again in the deeply corrupt human world, and by expressing words under the name of Almighty God, He has carried out the work of judgment beginning with the house of God, fully revealed the mystery of God’s management of saving mankind, and opened the sealed scroll in Revelation. In the last days, Almighty God has expressed all the truths required for man’s salvation to purify and transform man and reveal to man God’s disposition of righteousness, majesty, and intolerance of offense and His holy substance, so that through experiencing God’s judgment and chastisement, man can cast off his corrupt disposition and break free from Satan’s influence completely and be taken by God to a wonderful destination in the end. With the spread of the kingdom gospel of Almighty God, many true believers in the Lord who longed for the appearance of God have returned before God’s throne, received the supply of God’s words, recovered their former faith in God, and stepped onto the path to salvation. But there are also many other believers who, when faced with the work of Almighty God—the returned Lord Jesus—in the last days, do not seek or investigate it, but resist and condemn it because of listening to the words of their pastors and elders blindly. What is more, the pastors and elders in the religious world frenziedly resist Almighty God for fear that they will lose their positions and jobs if the believers all follow Almighty God’s work in the last days. resist,pastorsThey also stop the believers from investigating the true way by spreading rumors against it everywhere, and they even instigate them to call the police to arrest the brothers and sisters of the Church of Almighty God, thus making them Judases betraying the Lord and their true friends. They attempt to expel the incarnate Christ of the last days from among man in order to satisfy their aim to control God’s chosen people forever. Not only this, but they, when hearing some believers raise objections to their instruction, say with unbridled arrogance, “The Lord Jesus is merciful and loving. I believe that He will not forsake me when He comes. Everything I do is to protect His flock, and the Lord knows my heart. You just do what I’ve told you. If there is retribution, let the sin of condemning Almighty God be visited upon me.” It seems as if we heard the Pharisees who resisted the Lord Jesus 2,000 years ago crying to nail the Lord Jesus to the cross again, “His blood be on us, and on our children” (Matthew 27:25). These people think that God is merciful and tolerant toward man and that they are the lucky ones and all their sins will be forgiven by God. When they hear the news that the Lord has returned to do the work of judgment and chastisement, they are deaf to it, and they do not make any effort to seek or investigate it, and they even fabricate rumors to condemn God, becoming His opposers.
