Knowing members of amazing bands has its distinct advantages. SA very kindly allowed me to go shoot their Bournemouth show at O2 Academy this week. It's a venue I've been to a few times, and the views from the balcony are amazing, but the venue has very strict no cameras outside of the photopit rules so I asked SA if they would get me permission to shoot from it. Considering I asked literally 10 minutes before their set Ace was amazing in sorting it so quickly, and I'm so glad I asked because part way through the set Skin walked out across the heads of the audience, singing the rest of the song from here, before crowdsurfing back to the stage. INCREDIBLE!
Even more exciting when I'm told after the show that no other photographer on the tour so far has been given permission to shoot any part of the set outside of the allowed 3.
Hands down one of the best bands I've ever seen live. And I've seen rather a lot.

Knowing how the daily life of the inhabitants of Gavà 6,000 years ago and all the work inside the mines, the oldest in Europe and the only dedicated to the extraction of variscita, a semi-precious mineral used to make jewelry, is made possible by the Gavà Mines Archaeological Park.
The Gavà Mines Archaeological Park proposes a tour from the investigations that are made around an archaeological dig. Visitors can learn from their own experience in the park's natural environment and the lifestyle of the Neolithic community. Through this research and the latest audiovisual and multimedia technologies, they can discover what life was like for our ancestors and learn how the archaeological team in charge of the site have rebuild it on site.

On our last day in Rio, we met a friend of a friend to whom we told that we were leaving to Paraty the following morning. Without hardly knowing her, she called her friend living in Paraty and asked if we could stay at his house. Suddenly we had a place to sleep!
Paraty is a beautiful old city with many artists living/working there, however the old stone roads made it almost impossible to pull our carts (amps, instruments and of course our Balcony). But when we finally found the house where we would stay, the man turned out to be a really great artist, and we would sleep in a loft above his gallery. Although he didn’t speak English, he was really nice and invited us to stay as long as we wanted, even though we only had a few days.
That night we went to search for a place where we could play in exchange for dinner, and already the first place we asked said that it wasn’t a need to play since there weren’t any people, but if we wanted we could eat for free anyway!
So we ate a really nice Crepe, and by the time we were finished there were a few more customers, so Johan played a few classical guitar songs as a thank you.
Then suddenly at one of the two tables was a man who liked johan’s music the invited the whole band to play on his tourist boat the following day! So, the next day we played on his boat, got free food, and got to see all the nice beaches in the area.
In order to see a more remote beach, we took a bus to Trindade, a small fishing village nearby. There we met a reggae singer who had grown up there and lived there his whole life. We slept one night at his house, and showed us around the beautiful area. Unfortunately my camera died after meeting him..

so i went...a bit apprehensive of course, not knowing what ginger was to spring on me...but it's close to christmas...so how bad could it be...

There were lot more buildings going up and seems to be more people about. The day wasn't good weather wise for shots as it was very dull and gloomy.

I have still not been able to get out for new photos, so I am adding another five photos from my archives, yet again. If I wrote a description under a previously posted photo taken on the same outing, I will add it to tonight's uploads.
"On 16 October 2019, I really did luck out with the weather. Knowing that I am running out of time before the next snowfall happens - we've already had two, one in September and one so far this month - I reckoned it was now or not to make another long drive. The place I wanted to see again was way NE of the city. I had been there only once before, on 29 September 2014, and that was just a brief visit. My daughter and I had arrived there around 4:00 pm after a long day, and I wanted to get back home before it got dark (out of luck), because of poor night vision. Also, having spent the day at two other places plus lots of driving, I was in too much pain to walk around Rowley. I was determined to see everything this visit.
After leaving home at 9:15 am, it took me almost four hours to get there, as I kept stopping to take photos of the clouds and any old barns that I came across. On the return journey, I think I only stopped once and that was to take a few zoomed-in photos of a favourite old house. It is so far away, surrounded by rolling hills, that it is barely noticeable. There had been no obvious change over the last five years, which was good to see. It is so decayed that one can't help but wonder how much longer it will remain standing. I could have posted the original image, but I decided to add a touch of filter in post-processing, to bring out a bit more detail. The first time I saw this old house was on 18 July 2016, when my daughter and I did a bit of exploring NE of Calgary. Then, on 17 September 2017, after noticing snowflake icons in the weather forecast for Calgary, I decided I would do a similar drive, but not quite as far this time. It was nice to see it again two days ago.
There is very little information about this house to be found on the Internet, but I will add links to several things I did find, for my own memory and just in case anyone else is interested in the history of this place. So sad to see any old house, barn or shed fall into such decay.

On the drive to my destination, I called in at a small village/hamlet that I had been to with my daughter back in 2014. There was an old building there that was easily photographed from the road, which is what my daughter and I had done. However, for once, I actually knocked on the owner's door and asked if it was OK to photograph her old grain elevator, meaning from the road. However, she very kindly told me to go over to it and take any photos I wanted. This grain elevator is a different style from what one usually thinks of, when 'grain elevator' is mentioned. I like it, and it is quite a fine building.
I am so glad I finally made myself do this drive, despite feeling sick to the stomach at the thought of driving so many kilometres that were unknown to me. Thankfully, I made it without getting lost, without running out of gas, and arriving home at 5:45 pm before it started getting dark. Total distance covered was 395 km. A great day!"
