Walking through the St. Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto this noon I noticed this pretty young woman working at a seafood business. The St. Lawrence Market is a large, busy, indoor market with vendors selling a wide variety of products including meat, seafood, baked goods, spices, nuts, kitchenware, the list could go on. The Market boasts that it was named "the world's best food market” by National Geographic in 2012. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Lawrence_Market_South)

The tight-packed crowds and dismal artificial lighting discouraged me from giving much consideration to Stranger photography even though I saw a few people who would have been candidates under better conditions. Before leaving the Market I found my thoughts drifting back to this vendor and the words from our website echoed in my head “The only stranger approach you will regret is the one you did not make” (or words to that effect).

I backtracked to the seafood area to once again review the situation and noted that while the light was purely artificial and pointed away from the staff in order to illuminate the seafood, there was enough light if I boosted my ISO. Rather than give up because the conditions were not ideal, I figured there was no harm in trying. Up with the ISO and on with the Stranger speech. Meet Sam.

I invited Sam to come closer to her side of the counter and asked if I could take her photo for my Flickr Strangers project. I told her I thought she was photogenic and would love to have her participate in my project. She gave me a shy “That’s ok,” I coached her to look into my lens, fired off a couple of photos and then since customers were seeking her attention, I thanked her warmly and moved on. I didn’t have a chance to give her my contact card but if you find your way to the photo, Sam, please email me for a copy of your photo.

I think Sam’s lovely smile and sparkling eyes made her a great subject and I'm glad my "second thoughts" told me to return and capture this portrait.

Thank you Sam, for participating in 100 Strangers. You are now Stranger #262 in Round 3 of my project.

A kettle is a kitchenware piece. Depending on culture and geographic location, in the context of kitchenware the word kettle can have a variety of meanings. In the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada, a kettle is a device used to quickly heat water for hot drinks, such as tea or instant coffee.

Main entrance of the Denby Pottery factory, Derbyshire. Founded by Joseph Bourne in 1809, initially producing stoneware bottles, it diversified into kitchenware in the 1920s, best known its 'Cottage Blue' range.

... so the voice right next to me, assuming we would not understand a word, murmured in Slovak: "those Germans really photograph everything !" -

Admitted, but, hey - gimme a break! - have you EVER seen this style of shopwindow decoration west of Bratislava??

(Remark: The shop sells kitchenware, not dead animals)

This small wall plaque is only about four inches across and has such a nice patina. I found it in Huntsville, TX, in an antique store for $3.50.

What time is it Mr. Wolf? Ørjan made a face when I showed him this, but I know he likes it. I'm going to hang it in our kitchen later today.

I could not believe my eyes when I came upon these two bowls at a Volunteer's of America thrift store. As I got closer, I realized that for pink, they were in fantastic condition. After seeing the price, I felt faint. A 404 and a 403 for $4.97 and $3.97. Yes, please, I'll take two!

Maybe I should complain about not finding any Pyrex more often? :)

Marilyn is a tribute to the actress. As usual this sculpture consists of kitchenware. On a metallic structure, two sugar bowls globe in stainless steel were fixed, and look like breast.

Another e-Bay sale. They are 6" tall, about 8" across, and HEAVY ! I know they are old because on the bottom is stamped "Made in the USA", LOL!!! Seems like nothing is made in the USA any more...It all comes from you-know-where !!

It tastes so much better when you use vintage kitchenware ;-)

Beautiful designer kitchenware

These are most of the items that I bought at estate sale #2 today. As I'm sure you can tell from the photo, this may have been the dirtiest estate sale I ever attended! Some of my finds include a Wiener Dog liquor bottle & shot glasses, tiki glassware, pyrex dishes, retro chrome shot pourers, and other assorted barware and kitchenware!

Blueberries and Raspberries were on sale this week so I made myself some fruit salad this morning. This is my favorite combination. Very simple, but delicious. I like to get one of each on my spoon :)

I am loving my new Woodland bowl. Every time I use my Woodland pieces, I love the pattern a little more. It just reminds me so much of being at my Grandma's when I was little, and the bowl she had.

This is a large and heavy set. The chartreuse bowl is 12". Perfect condition, I don't think they were ever used.
