Smokey Bear joined Coconino National Forest employees and family members on our parade float at the Flagstaff Holiday of Lights, December 9, 2017. The crew decorated Engine 481 and the 1925 Dodge Brothers truck with holiday lights at the Flagstaff Ranger District, then headed to the staging area on Elm Street north of downtown Flagstaff.
Smokey greeted children with hugs and the crew socialized with local residents while waiting for the parade to begin at 6:00 p.m. As the sun set, parade floats started lighting up in expectation of the main event. Parade floats started heading down Beaver Street towards downtown. Since the Forest Service float was one of the last floats in the parade, the crew was treated to seeing most of the other incredible entries, including a marching band, a Chinese dragon, flaming baton twirlers, and lots and lots of beautiful holiday lights!
The parade moved down Beaver Street into historic downtown Flagstaff. Smokey Bear was greeted by endless cheers, and the crowd shouted out greetings like "happy holidays!" and "thank you for all your hard work!" The parade turned on Aspen Street, moving past historic locations like the Orpheum Theater, Weatherford Hotel, and the Hotel Monte Vista. The parade turned up San Francisco Street to make its way out of the downtown area.

Hundreds of people joined demonstrations in Wales and central London following the surprise Conservative election victory. About 200 people were involved in clashes with police outside Downing Street, throwing green smoke bombs and tomato ketchup at officers in riot gear.
Singer Charlotte Church joined a more sedate march in Cardiff where she accused the Conservatives of “dismantling” the NHS.
The rally in Cardiff was a more peaceful affair, which began with a march through the city centre.

Paige's week seems nearly complete. On Sunday she has church, sunday school and Awana. On Monday she's in dance class. On Tuesday she goes to preschool. On Wednesday she heads for the water at swim class. On Thursday she has another day of preschool. Her weekend more or less begins on Friday, but most of the neighborhood kids are older than her and still at school. Saturday is the big play day around the block.
For a while now, both last year at preschool, and this year, Paige has been going to preschool with one of her friends, Ally. Ally and Paige actually met when they were both much younger, and the neighborhood had a play group. That's two days a week she see's Ally. Well, now Ally has joined Paige's dance class, which makes it three days per week.
We used to get reports that the bond between Ally and Paige was so strong that they'd not play with other kids at preschool. We even went so far as to be proactive about it this year and tell the preschool teacher up front that they shouldn't be afraid to separate them. You might think the three days a week would really undo it, but as it turns out, I think they're actually getting enough of one another.
The latest reports put them expanding their horizons and mingling with new classmates. Maybe they're getting sick of one another?
Now we have the upper arm parts joined and fitted with snaps and elastic, its time to join the forearm.
To get the position right i used masking tap to test fit the position of the elastic and snaps.once happy with everything i marked were i wanted the snaps and elastic length
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Chelsea 2, Club America 1
By Greg Beacham, AP Sports Writer
STANFORD, Calif. — Jose Mourinho got exactly what he wanted out of Chelsea's preseason opener. Thanks to a bold debut by Florent Malouda, the manager even got a victory as well.
John Terry and Malouda scored late second-half goals, leading Chelsea to a 2-1 win over Mexico's Club America in the Disney Friendship Cup on Saturday night.
Malouda, who joined the Blues in a $27 million transfer from French champion Lyon on Tuesday, was the unlikely catalyst. He got an equalizing goal in the 76th minute, and Terry then headed home Malouda's free kick for the winner 7 minutes from time.
But Mourinho has no interest in results during this West Coast tour, which includes a meeting with the Los Angeles Galaxy and David Beckham next weekend. Chelsea is instead using its fourth annual U.S. training camp to build teamwork and fitness for next month's Premiership schedule.
"I'm pleased totally," said Mourinho, who made nine substitutions at halftime. "I think it was a very good training session. Club America, they gave us exactly what we need: competition, but competition with quality. We played a good game with good passing, good movement."
Juan Carlos Mosqueda scored in the third minute for America, which put on a strong first-half showing before Chelsea's newest player and its stalwart captain earned a win in the Blues' first match of the summer.
"The side we played was very different than what we're used to," said midfielder Joe Cole, also citing the springy pitch as an added degree of difficulty. "I think it took us a while to get going. ... It was just good to get out of the game with no injuries."
The match at Stanford's renovated stadium against the storied Mexico City side is expected to be the most competitive of Chelsea's three matches during the California swing for England's richest club, which arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The Blues then had much of their thunder stolen when Beckham arrived in Los Angeles.
Chelsea will face Korea's Samsung Bluewings on Tuesday back in Southern California in the second Friendship Cup match before next Saturday's much-anticipated meeting with the Galaxy, when Beckham is expected to debut.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him," Cole said of his England teammate. "I know there's going to be a lot of hype around the game. I hope he does well over here and helps soccer grow in America."
The 22-year-old Mosqueda, who scored three goals last year in his debut season with America, found the net early when his right-footed shot from the top of the penalty box deflected off Terry, catching goalie Petr Cech going the wrong way.
Chelsea tied it when America goalie Armando Navarrete bobbled a long ball straight onto Malouda's foot. The winger adroitly tipped it between two stumbling defenders.
Terry then put Chelsea ahead with an exceptional header off Malouda's free kick, diving away from the net before whipping a shot past Navarrete.
Chelsea booster clubs from throughout the U.S. filled the south stands at Stanford Stadium, waving banners and singing. Two sections of the north stands were packed with America's famously enthusiastic fans, who lit firecrackers and released confetti throughout the match.
New transfers Steve Sidwell and Tal Ben-Haim made their first appearances for Chelsea in the first half, along with 18-year-old defender Jack Cork. Mourinho then left only Terry and defender Glen Johnson - back in blue after a year on loan to Portsmouth - in the lineup while bringing on 17-year-old defender Sam Hutchinson and Malouda among the changes.
"You can say we played two good teams," Mourinho said. "Everybody has to fight for a place, and I think they have a difficult task, because everybody is really good."
Santiago Fernandez's goal in the 15th minute was ruled offside as America carried most of the action in a slow first half. The Chelsea substitutes applied much more pressure on America's defense, with Didier Drogba putting a shot just over the crossbar in the 65th minute.
"I think you saw the way we can play," said Drogba, who scaled a small hillside near Chelsea's locker room after the match to greet a cheering group of fans from his native Ivory Coast. "There's a lot of quality on this team."

*HUNDREDS JOINS “MOVING PLANET “CLIMATE ACTION IN ROSARIO, CAVITE,
PHILIPPINES
*
Amidst signs of an early morning downpour, around 500 people from all walks
of life still converged in-front of the Municipal Hall of Rosario, Cavite to
join the 2011 Moving Planet climate action.
Municipal and barangay government officials and personnel together with
various schools and civic organizations went to the streets on foot and on
their bikes to show their solidarity to the global call to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions to 350 parts per million (ppm) to mitigate the impacts of
global warming and climate change.
Before reaching La Isla Bonita de Salinas beach where the Moving Planet and
350 human formation will be conducted, the participants walked and bike for
about 2 kilometers carrying paper windmills, 350 banners, and climate
posters while others shouted some chants about climate change.
Upon reaching the beach, a wave of people in different colors signifies that
climate action is everyone’s moral responsibility and concern regardless of
creed, religion and social status.
Michael Giongco, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Office (MDRRMO) of Rosario, in his speech, asserts that everyone
just walked and used their bikes in going to the beach as a manifestation of
the simple action to reduce everyone’s carbon footprint. He added that the
Municipality of Rosario, together with the rest of the world supports the
global call to reduce GhG to 350ppm to mitigate climate change. He also
hopes that the said event will be start of a long term commitment of
everyone to act on climate change.
Mayor Jose Ricrafente, in his solidarity message congratulates the people of
Rosario for the successful Moving Planet event. He said that climate action
also means putting significance in protecting the environment which is of
vital importance to the survival of the people of Rosario. He shared that
the very beach where the Moving Planet and 350 human formation was held is a
living testimony of the commitment of his leadership in environmental
protection. He further shared that the local government unit has poured a
lot of effort to put an end to illegal fishing activities in the coastal
areas of Rosario.
The 2011 Moving Planet was then read by Ms. Janah Araracap, SK Chair of
Barangay Silangan 1. She expressed that climate change is bringing permanent
changes to our lives that the immediate effects that worsen natural hazard
events must be managed with proper preparedness and response. She added that
the more permanent changes require more massive actions, not just from
government, but from all sectors in society; including all of us. The
declaration also appeals to the people of Rosario and the world to change
“lifestyle” as a simple solution to mitigate climate change. Ms. Araracap
mentioned simple actions such as change of consumerist lifestyle, reduction
or zero use of plastics, promote the practice of walking and biking as mode
of transportation, switch off and unplug of electrical devices, and others.
She also highlights that the people of Rosario supports the current
Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) and Climate Change
Adaptation project that is being implemented in Rosario, Cavite that is
spearheaded by the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR)
and funded by the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR). Finally, the
declaration emphasized on the basic rights of the people to a healthy
environment and free from disasters brought about by climate change.
The finale of the event was the 350 human formation wherein Mark Cervantes

St. Patrick's Bridge (1859) - Reconstructed In 1981
A three span masonry arch bridge which joins Bridge Street and St. Patrick's Street. This bridge has three elliptical arches and has ashlar limestone facing. There are carved effigies on the arch keystones.
The foundation stone was laid on the 25 July 1788 for the first Saint Patrick's Bridge. The structure was washed away while still under construction and had to be rebuilt. The bridge was opened on 29 September 1789.
This bridge was badly damaged in another flood on 2 November 1853 and a new bridge was designed by Sir John Benson. Cork Corporation were allowed to borrow funds for reconstruction of Saint Patrick’s bridge and Northgate bridge through the 1856 Cork Bridge and Waterworks act, so foundations were laid for Saint Patrick’s bridge in 1859. These foundations are 14' below the low water line and they support piers formed with iron reinforced concrete.
The main base and under-works were constructed of Foynes Limestone with good quality local limestone for the main superstructure, which is built of finely jointed ashlar. The foundation stone to the north-east abutment is a 2 ton block of Foynes limestone with a glass vase inserted, containing coins and scrolls of the mid 19th century and the names of local dignitaries and those chiefly involved in the bridge’s construction. A cost of £19,000 was budgeted for the construction. The Mayor of Cork, John Arnott, opened the second bridge on 12 December 1861.
Effigies of Saint Patrick, Neptune, Saint Bridget, and three sea goddesses were carved into the key-stones of each arch by local sculptor Scannell of Douglas Street.100 stone cutters, masons and labourers were employed in building Saint Patrick’s Bridge.
The bridge carried trams which were horse-drawn from the 1870s and became electrified from 1898. During reconstruction works on the bridge in 1981, all but a small number of the carved parapet balusters were replaced with concrete. Cast iron lamp standards provided gas lighting from 1861 but replacement, double, electric lanterns now serve the bridge-way from stone pedestals on the parapet.
