This was our group photo after celebrating rare disease day. At this event was student of the group against all odds, the genetic counseling special interest group at UCI, doctors, and patients. We spread awareness about rare diseases, and hear personal stories from two young girls living with Prader Willi Syndrome. It was truly a night to remember.

My 3 year old son Cooper has MPS IVA. I asked my daughter's kindergarten teacher if she'd like to do something small to teach the kids about rare diseases, and she jumped in whole heartedly!

Having the kids hold their colored 'rare disease day'; sheet was her idea. So clever! Next year, I plan to ask more to participate than just the Kindergarten class. :)

My new independence
I have PCD by Rare Disease Day

Today Is rare Disease day and I want for everyone to know what I have. Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a disease that causes a chronic cough, recurrent infections of the lung (bronchitis and/or pneumonia), and scarring of the airways (bronchiectasis). It also causes chronic sinusitis, and ear infections (otitis media).

I have PCD and Bronchiectasis and I think that having those diseases does not define me but it made the person I am today. I care for people, and it have made me compassionate. And of course I couldn't have made if it wasn't for our God Jehovah.
