Elizabeth Castle was built in the late 16th century to protect the island from cannons, Mont Orgueil castle couldn't. It is named after the Queen of that time, Elizabeth l.. There is a pier leading to a house where, according to legend a hermit monk lived until he was killed by pirates.

We wanted to be at the War Tunnels when they opened, but the direct bus got there later.
So we took the bus along the promenade and got off at Beaumont and walked up to the War Tunnels.
The War Tunnels are very well done, and I learnt a lot; you are underground so whatever the weather take warm clothes.
After the War Tunnels we had a drink in the café and then took green lanes/paths to St Peters (lunch on a bench in the church yard.
After this we walked westwards to the coast. You can spot where we took a wrong turning and recovered.
We diverted up to the dam on the reservoir for a look, and then headed west again to the coast.
There we picked a bus up to Corbiere for ice cream and a walk across to the lighthouse.
Two buses took us back to St Aubin via the airport - we ate at the Old Courthouse.
Then a bus back to St Helier - we had been out for nearly 12 hours.
These jersey fabrics are stretch and they are a tap bit thicker than the other bunch of jersey that I have (see other photo).
