Jake stopped mid grooming because he heard some noises he was unfamiliar with, involving his imp of a little sister and a curtain.
Apologies if you’ve seen this and maybe even commented on it. There were two of the same versions as I attempted to lighten it up.
Jake also loves the snow. He was a stray that adopted us a couple of years ago and is now a full fledged member of the household.
I spotted Jake and Jade as I was driving home and they were walking in the other direction. So a couple of turns later and my guess as to where they would be was correct. Jumping out of the car I just reached them as they walked past a piece of derelict ground which I thought would suit their style if they agreed to the shoot. So this is Jake my 84th stranger, and even though I did take a couple of shots of them together as well as a few of his girlfriend Jade, it was Jake I was really interested in. I have wanted to meet a stranger for a while now whose look could handle a more “gritty” approach. Yes I could apply whatever processing I liked to my stranger shots, and I do process them all, some more than others, but generally I err on the side of “flattering” maybe very gently softening the shot, or warming the tones a little, but with Jake I could see a style that would allow me to be slightly more aggressive than usual.
So yet again I discovered that appearances can be, and often are, deceiving. Jake was a lovely engaging guy, softly spoken, considerate and kind. Having worked with animals in the past when he was in Cornwall his ideal job now would be to work with the reintroduction of wolves in Scotland.
So my plan to push the processing got diluted simply because even if his appearance suggested one way his demeanour suggested something else. So I've ended up with half a dozen shots that I quite like that all have a different feel to them. I've decided to use this b/w one for the project though, partly because I feel it has less initial impact on the viewer, his style is still there but I think it is easier to get past that and distinguish Jakes real character.

Jake and his wife and 3 dogs, including Kali pictured here, were at the Second Sunday on King Street in Charleston. As we talked for probably 30 minutes or so, we found out quite a bit about each other.
Jake is a Safety Manager at the Volvo construction site going in around the Ridgeville area. He travels for his company wherever he is needed. He says he will be around this area for possibly another 2 months or so, then off to somewhere else.
Jake says he loves God, Country, and his mom! And, I am right there with him on that! I also found out he is a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus - another thing him and I have in common. And, like me, he and his wife are dog lovers. He filled me in on a Cavalier rescue in our area. I am going to be sure to follow up on that!
Jake, I am sure I left some stuff out, but I think I covered a good bit of it. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife, and I hope we can get together a couple of times before you have to hit the road.
